Phil Younghusband says early miscues - more than Uzbeks' quality - did Azkals in

PHIL Younghusband insisted the Philippine men’s football team was hardly overwhelmed by facing an Asian powerhouse in Uzbekistan in their World Cup Qualifying on Tuesday night.
More the quality of the 76th-ranked Uzbeks — the highest-ranked nation they have ever faced, the Azkals skipper believes they have themselves to blame for suffering a sound 5-1 beating.
“They were just a good team and scored two early goals,” Younghusband said. “You can’t give a good team a two-goal head start.”
The Uzbeks went up barely a minute into the match when Odil Akhmedov’s shot from outside the box slipped past goalkeeper Neil Etheridge’s hands and between his legs.
Their defense expected to hold up better after that, the Azkals instead concede another goal just 13 minutes later off Sardor Rashidov, who headed home a corner from the left side.
It was a hole too deep to climb out of by the time the Filipino booters settled down.
“We started to get more in the game maybe thirty minutes in and had we kept it nil-nil by then, it may be have been a different game,” Younghusband said.
“But to be two goals down after just fifteen minutes made it more difficult.”
Still, the Azkals star remains upbeat of their chances to advance to the third round.
“Getting a win would’ve made it easier for us, but it’s still open for anyone to top the group,” said Younghusband, whose team has six points and running third in Group H behind their tormentors on goal difference.
Only the winners as well as the four best runners-up among the eight groups will qualify for the next round.

  1. When you win, you feel like you did well and you deserve it. When you lose, you feel like it's on your mistake and the opponent don't deserve it.
If this and that happened, had it not been for this and that, blah blah.. then the game could have been different. Every losers can say that.

    1. No one is saying the Uzbeks did not deserved it. The Azkals players are just saying that its their fault for the lose. They made some mistakes and the better team, Uzbekistan took advantage of these and win!

  5. Kahit anong galing ng Uzbekistan, one of Asia's best man sila, di pa rin sila nagququalify sa FIFA World Cup, so same thing sa Azkals, yun nga lang perennial powerhouse Na sila noon pa while azkals is still powerhouse in the making
Park the bus and no respect will be earned
Madaming chances na di naconvert lalo na yng kay bahadoran at patiño
Pero time will come, lessons learned, di man sila manalo sa rematch sa tashkent (home venue ng uzbeks) sa March 24 for sure dina mauulit ang ganyang scoreline
For now focus muna sa upcoming assignments against Vietnam, North Korea and Bahrain Next month

  6. yeah but you guys should learn from this. keep your composure. you won't win the Filipino hearts and minds if you can't recover from a 2-0 scoreline. of course it's a stretch to expect to the same after a 4-0, but sana man lang after 3-0 bumira na kayo. KEEP TRAINING! KEEP FIGHTING!

    1. i agree with you kung Pinoys general populations that spend their time watching the bandwagon viral show of ALDUB.

pero little by little and slowly Philippine football is creating their real fan base.

from bandwagon attendees and seasonal fans nag level up ang Pinoy football na maka create ng loyal fan base.

  7. The players should also be more prepared next time. Dooley saying that if they concede a goal within the first minutes it would be difficult to come back. This motivated the players to avoid this but when it happened (like in this match, the Uzbeks scored immediately) they were shattered. It became a self-fulfilling prophecy. They were also not prepared in the wet pitch. The prior friendly was with Maldives in Rizal (artificial turf).

  8. 3-4-3 formation is disaster approach,i hope they learned. supposedly, they use conservative style, yeah this is the effect, bad effect of experimental ,but still they stood until the last drop of their blood.the big factor for this game is the early target from the uzbek squad and kaboooom! they got it,azkals then cant figure there style.azkals is defeated, maybe 3-0 but no 5-1,if they control the game early, yeah, within 15minutes opening and closing time is crucial, seems dooley took this uzbeks lightly.
