PFF agrees with Azkals management on coach Thomas Dooley contract extension

From: Karlo Sacamos

THE Philippine Football Federation expressed willingness to reward men’s national team coach Thomas Dooley a new tenure after a year of ups and downs. Azkals manager Dan Palami earlier recommended in the middle of the Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup the extension of the German-American mentor’s one-year contract, which ends in February. Terms have yet to be finalized. “I have no objection to that,” PFF president Nonong Araneta said. “We’ve seen how he has shaped up the team: it’s really a team playing.” Dooley has also managed to keep the Azkals intact off the field, leading the pack amid a publicized falling out with overseas-based standouts Stephan Schrock and Dennis Cagara a few months ago. On the pitch, US national team skipper steered the Filipino footballers to numerous breakthroughs this year, although they fell short of expectations in major competitions. They wound up runners-up in the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup and the Philippine Peace Cup, before missing the Suzuki Cup finals, the third straight for the Filipinos. “One setback is not (a basis of his extension),” Araneta said. “We just have to pick up the pieces and move forward.” “Now that we know the season’s over, we can start sitting together and think about what we are going to do. Am I still involved or not?” Dooley asked. The 53-year-old mentor said he “definitely” wants to stay at the helm of the national team. “I know the boss would like to work with me longer, so I hope so,” he said. “We’ll see what’s going to happen.”

I think we have to move on na po dahil 4 years na ang nakakaraan ata wla na yun .We need a new system of play for the whole nation , a new coach and technical director who have UEFA experience in top level so we can structure the grassroots properly not just put some 'Kasibulan" 3 day GCF and ultimately forgotten later on. No more privatization of National teams liek Palami is doing because all sponsorhips and donations including income form ads will not go directly to PFF but to the manager's pocket. I'm not saying that Palami is corrupt because he put he's effort into it but why would the PFF allowed this is the real question. Ok lng ba sa kanila na wlang mapupuntang pera sa kaban ng PFF ? na dapat sana ay dito para magamit natin sa pagbuo ng mga programs at football projects sa buong bansa? We should also abandon the Football Associations as it hampers the development of football throughout the country while most of it are under corrupt people who holds term longer than a decade or more without elections happening to usurp power and create foundations under the guise of football while receiving financial donations abroad without taxes straight to their pockets. Let us implement the Club based status only and put academies each while giving importance to our homegrowns and not rely on 'band-aid mentality'.

    1. Dooley is a UEFA license coach. Palami is more of a financier of the Azkals. The football team is still struggling on funds so the senior men national team is only given outmost focus while the grassroots rely on aids from FIFA. The PFF is also having a hard time to organize friendlies. Yes the problem is the our national federations are prone to politics, sadly we have to resort to giving control to private sponsors to bring our national teams potential out. Yes this has to end. Palami is not here forever, MVP is not forever with Gilas. Without grassroots or a proper national league the azkals program will collapse. Plus our folks back at the POC are corrupt people who pretend to care about sports. Depriving the youth national teams of experience because they are not "gold contenders" to save money for their pockets... ahem national sports program.

File a case if you have the proof.

Mag research muna kayo bago mag post dito.

  3. Pff Araneta is doing good. as a former NT player, he understands the situation here and he has good relationship to Palami. in terms of funding, i think PFF is under POC which is corrupt and basketball~minded people.

    1. There is an ongoing rift between POC and PFF, evident that PFF didn't send azkals u-23 to SEA games and boycotted asian games because POC said they're not "medal contenders" even though funds will be shouldered by PFF
it is unlikely that the foolish POC is funding PFF, most of the azkals funds come from private sponsors now

    5. You have a one sided idea that's why you glorify Palami as God of philippine football which is not to us. That was pure luck in 2010 its at the right place at the right time but we are in constant change and not always dwelling the past.

    6. Pure luck if they don't do anything then suddenly goes to semis, what happened on that timw was pure determination and hardwork. Sweat and blood. No one glorifies Palami, some fans are just so thankful for him, the Azkals, and the management. I wish it was you whom people are so thankful now (unfortunately not). PH is just unlucky to have you.

So you mean to say you like the former corrupt PFF president Jose Martinez to stay on his seat before being ousted by Palami and Araneta? Any FIFA funds that should go to the national team pre-2010 Jose Martinez just put in his pocket, he has done nothing for philippine football and everyone in AFC regarded us as whipping boys
Then, in 2010, an outsider who knows nothing about football (he's a businessman by trade) named dan joseph palami took over, ousted this corrupt president and brought filipino football to the asian spotlight.
      And the story continues...

    8. So many palami lovers.
should start at palami fan club..
      Haha..

    9. Palami Fan Federation - savior of Philippine Football and creator of Azkals name because he trademark it and patented so if some companies use 'Azkals' then they would pay to Palami and Palami will not give any amount to PFF because PFF is his puppet and puppets just say yes together with their fans praising his holy name for football.

    10. Spot on dude..
Believe most of palami lovers are those fans who know nuts about football.
Just people enjoying the hype and glam of seeing fil-foreign.

  4. Hiring perennial coaches is how you kill football development in record time. Thailand, Vietnam, Sngapore, Indonesia and the would be emerging programs all haunted by such demon for decades.

New Coaches came in zeroed on quick wins. But when existing talents dilapidated popularity faded and they left without developing a single talent to fill the faded ones.

Set up the system and find coaches who can come in to enhance the program and it will take 10-12 years to get on the right track---just to get it going not the Championship just yet.

    1. Azkals critics have been saying, Weiss was a better coach than Dooley
Well I don't believe that. Actually Dooley has a UEFA B coaching Licence, something that even Thailand coach Zico (an AFC-licenced coach) or any AFF manager could only dream of
Of course his system and tactics will be different than most AFC or AFF teams, and he's always experimenting with the lineup, and sometimes gambits
The only players that were able to adapt his system of short passing and patience better in such a short time were the younger players (number 8, 11, 12)
And it takes a long while considering the Azkals (much like Vietnam and Indonesia) were used to long balls and counter-attacks just to get a goal. They haven't fully adapted this Spanish-style tiki taka gameplay right now, but it's working quite well against same-level and weaker teams. It's only a matter of time before azkals can say "we beat thailand". It's not going to happen in one night.
Remember it took 22 games in 80 years for azkals to beat garuda
I hope that Thailand drubbing of azkals serves as an inspiration to improve better rather than feeling sorry for themselves
