THE Cebu Elite team will see action in a one-week tournament in San Carlos City from March 25 to 31.
The Cebu Elite, which is a selection of the top players in Cebu City, will be fielding a total of 75 players in the Boys Under-14, Boys Under-12 and Boys Under-11 categories.
Footballers from the Boys Under-14 squad will be vying for a spot in the RP national team which will play in the upcoming Asian Football Confederation Under-14 Festival of Football on May 25 in Malaysia.
In San Carlos, the Cebuanos will be up against the best players from Iloilo, Dumaguete and Bacolod.
“The players will undergo games and skills test the whole week. The coaches of the national team will then pick the top 22 players,” Richard Montayre told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview yesterday.
Meanwhile, players from Boys Under-12 and Under-11 will be fighting for a spot in the regional squad.
Aside from the Boys Under-14 national team selection, the Girls Under-13 division will also be having a national selection also in San Carlos City from April 26 to 30.
The Cebuano players of the Girls Under-13 category will be battling a selection from Iloilo, Dumaguete, Bacolod and two squads from the National Capital Region and Mindanao.
The Girls 13-Under will be having its international tournament on June 27 in Vietnam.
There will also be a regional selection of the Girls 19-Under division on that same week. The final selection of the Boys 14 and Girls 13 national squads will have a one-month training camp before playing for its respective international tournaments.
On the other hand, the Cebu Elite team will continue its training after the San Carlos event to prepare for the next selection process. The Elite team is part of AFC Vision Asia’s 10-year grassroots program.
