THREE Cebu Elite squads will start their one-week campaign in the Regional Festival of Football today in San Carlos City.
The Cebu Elite Boys 14-Under, 12-Under and 11-Under teams will have their first two games in the double-round robin format in the regional competition today.
The Cebu Elite squads, which arrived in San Carlos City yesterday afternoon, will take on the best of the Negros Occidental Football Association at 7 a.m. and then the Negros Oriental Football Association selection at 4 p.m.
“We really have to play as a team and just execute simple football and nothing else,” Under-14 coach Oliver Colina told Sun.Star Cebu. “Communication is also very vital for us to win in this tournament.”
Aside from the two Negros teams, Cebu will also be facing Iloilo in the one-week tournament.
The team with the most points after the single-ound robin will be declared the winner of the tournament.
Aside from the games, all teams will be joining a skills competition tomorrow.
Aside from coaching the Cebu Elite Boys Under-14 squad, Colina is also the head coach of the RP Under-14 team.
He will be handpicking 30 of the best players from the four teams in the tournament to be included in the national team roster.
The 30 players chosen will be in a rigid six-week training camp in Cebu City after the Holy Week.
After the training camp, Colina will select the 22 best players for the final line-up of the national team that will see action on May 25 in the Asian Football Confederation 14-Under Festival of Football in Malaysia.
