ReplyDeleteWhy they call up Phil Y ? Was he not suspended ?
It's still possible to call up a suspended player according to FIFA rules, though Phil is limited only to practice sessions and can't be fielded or be in the bench/dugout, but can only watch as an audience in the upcoming game (like Etheridge's suspension last time 2012)
ReplyDeleteThough it won't be worth calling Phil YH if the game is away (it would cost PFF his logistics and boarding/lodging), since it's home game PFF takes the advantage
Alphonse Areola (now with Villareal) played vs FC Barcelona over the weekend. He went up against Neymar and Luis Suarez.
ReplyDeleteChances is he is aiming to represent spain..
DeleteMayb if he reach 30 years old no 1 call him up den he will play for us.
This is the sad state the national team.
Instead of looking at UFL for future players we are busy hoping for fil foreign to fill up the team.
If one day FIFA disallow players who never play in the local league for more than 5 years to represent the country, PFF will be screwed.
I don't think that's going to happen
DeleteFIFA embraces multiculturalism
You see EU players from 27 nations playing from country to country (which are also EU member nations) with no restrictions at all and are playing as "citizens" or locals, dual citizenship is also embraced
They also have 3+1 rule but it only applies to non-EU nationals players (like Swiss, Latin Americans, Africans, etc) with no EU citizenship
For example You wonder why
Benzema (French national with Algerian roots), Ronaldo (Portuguese)
Bale (British)
Messi (Spanish naturalized and Spanish-Argentinian dual citizen)
Ibrahimovic (Swedish naturalized with Bosnian roots)
play so freely in La Liga, EPL, Ligue 1 or any other EU league with no restrictions at all
BTW Areola was already called up to play for France in a tournament game 2016 Euro Qualifiers (though was never fielded)
DeleteHe still have the slimmest of chances to choose Azkals
Brazil-born Diego Costa (Spanish naturalized citizen) played for Brazil once (friendly game) but he switched to Spain because he was never called up and fielded by Brazil in a tournament game
UFL local players need more time to develop their quality
DeleteCoach and PFF don't just call up players
They need to prove that they're worth the call
For example Aguinaldo was chosen not because he plays for Global but because he has potential and so far has proven himself
Fil-Brit James Younghusband isn't being called up lately because he isn't compatible or can't adapt to Dooley's system
Players need winning mentality besides quality
Being half-Filipino isn't a perk/privilege/priority anymore in suiting up for Azkals
If Weiss is still the coach then your argument is valid because he calls up Europe-based players even if the game is just a friendly
etheridge, deyto and muller is enough kaya no need for Areola to be main shot stopper.
ReplyDeleteazkals needs more strikers like PYH and Patino..tsaka more defenders sa spot ni Gier and Guirado nagtatandaan na sila.
