Azkals unable to solve Thailand riddle, suffer three-goal loss in away friendly

From: Karlo Sacamos

THE Philippine men’s football team failed to figure out the puzzle that is Thailand anew as it surrendered a 3-0 decision in their friendly on Sunday night at the opponent’s turf in Nakhon Ratchasima. The Azkals lost for the 14th straight time and 15th overall in 17 meetings with the War Elephants. It was a wake-up call for the Filipino booters, who plunge into the Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup in less than two weeks. They open their campaign on November 22 against Laos. Thailand is in another group. “I’m not happy that we lost, but on the other side, the Suzuki Cup is more important,” Azkals coach Thomas Dooley said. “It was a good game for us to see what we expect in the Suzuki Cup. The Thais were ranked 36 spots below the Azkals, but their low ranking belied their true worth as they leaned on an early goal before turning it up a notch in the second half to score the shutout. Mongkol Thosakrai opened the scoring with a header 30 minutes into the match, before Prakit Deeprom doubled the lead in the 54th minute. Kroekrit Thawikan put the exclamation point with another goal 20 minutes. Dooley inserted Filipino-Spanish defender Alvaro Silva in the starting lineup for the first time, while letting 33-year-old Filipino-Japanese midfielder Satoshi Otomo make his debut after coming in as a halftime sub. The Azkals return to action on Friday when they face Cambodia at Rizal Memorial Stadium in their last home stand before the Suzuki Cup in Vietnam.

  1. For me, that is the result why the AZKALS don't have enough time to play together as a team, most of them see each other during flight going to the math playdate...so what we expect for them ? it so happened they play Nepal as not strong as Thailand Team...they need more time to have practice together, and they don't have enough communications on the field.... they want their own playing styles no team work and lack of team communication strategies... just an observation only during the match....not impressive sorry

    1. Lol. Chemistry na naman? Thailand din and all countries for that matter don't always train together. Their players learn the system from the early levels until they progress to the top. No need to keep them together, pull them away from their families, house them in gulags and whip them if they err. We are not North Korea. LOL at you wannabe try hards who like to yap away like some know it all nerd wimp. God I hate your stupid opinions you reactionary aholes. Losers!!!!!!

  2. IMO, our defense are too slow to react (a concern for the coming Suzuki Cup) while Rob Gier is too old to play as a starter and don't have enough stamina for the entire 60 minutes of playing time. Because Rob Gier is not playing top level of football in England. Simone Rota is not suited as Right Wing back while Deyto is not aggressive enough as our shot stopper. Dooley for sure had less coaching experience and it shows again last night as Thailand played mostly their U22's while running amok on our defense. Teerasil Dangda was not even in the line up who played for UD Almeria in La Liga. How much more if their senior players are with it last night?

    2. And this worries me. We have an ageing backline but insist on playing high. Our wing backs like to push up but does not have the stamina to come back and defend. To make matters worse we experiment with players out of position.

All you stupid experts here tell me what have we gained here? What can we learn from putting players out of position? What is the logic behind it?

    4. Its just an observations only during the match of thais and Azkals, and look the reality. I knew some of the AZKALS are having skills but this is a team not an individual sports. Let us see how they perform during Suzuki Cup 2014 , wish for the best sana they can really prove that AZKALS is still the no.1 in ASEA ( SEA ) countries...best of luck

  3. Any half decent footballer can fit in to any team comfortably. Coaching of adults can only put a shine on what is already polished. It can not turn brass into gold.
