by Jaelle Nevin Reyes

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine national football team failed to conquer the Thai national booters on their home soil yielding 3-0 to in a friendly at Nakhon Ratchisima, Thailand on Sunday, November 9,
The game is part of a series of friendlies that are part of the Azkals preparation for the upcoming Suzuki Cup championship.
The War Elephants sent a flurry of attacks to the Philippine side, pounding the defense of the Azkals early in regulation.
On the other end, the men from Manila replied with attacks of their own at the Thai goal but their frontline kept on firing blanks.
The Thai side hit the back of the net at the 30th minute after their offense exposed an opening on the left side to give Mongkol Thossakrai a chance to attack the Philippines' defense.
The Azkals tried to equalize before the opening half ended but their chances were well defended by their foes.
The Thais did not rest their intense offense throughout the match as Prakit Deeprom notched a goal via a rebound in the 54th minute after a failed clearance by the Azkals’ backline.
Fresh legs were placed into the game for the Thomas Dooley-mentored booters in an attempt to break the squad's goal slump.
But the tough defense of the Southeast Asian powerhouse continued to swat away their attempts.
Azkals substitute Kenshiro Daniels tried his luck with a shot from way beyond the box but his shot failed to hit its mark due to a deflection by the Thai goalkeeper.
To make matters worse for the Azkals, Kroekrit Thawikan extended the lead of Thailand to 3-0 before the match ended to tally yet another victory against the Philippines. –
