Global names Leigh Manson as new head coach

Global FC on Saturday formally announced the appointment of Scottish coach Leigh Manson as the new man in charge for its upcoming United Football League campaign.
Manson replaces compatriot Brian Reid, who led Global to two runners up finishes in the both the league and the PFF-Smart National Club Championships.
"The past year has been an eye opener for the club," said Global Chief Executive Dan Palami. "That has become a motivation for us to do better this year.
Palami has high hopes that Manson can steer the club to greater heights.
"Coach Leigh will bring with him a new kind of regime as a coach," said Palami. "We are looking forward for Global to perform both offensively and defensively."
Manson traces his roots from Scotland and holds a UEFA B coaching license having coached for over 20 years.
Manson is also the founder of Japan-based Total Football and was part of the Philippines Under-23 coaching staff.
Prior to his move to Japan, Manson also worked for Gretna FC as its director of youth football. He was also head coach of the national development center of the Southwest Region of the Scottish Football Association.
"I'm very excited by the opportunity to put my ideas on the pitch," said  Manson. "I know long enough Dan's vision of how he wants Global to play."
Joining Manson at Global are Mexican goalkeeping coach Jorge Kuriyama and assistant coach Diego Sandoval.
"It's a privilege for me to be part of one of the best teams in the Philippines," said Kuriyama. "The standard of this team is to win each of the competition they play."
Manson will get his baptism of fire on Tuesday as Global begins its league campaign against UFL Cup winners Loyola Meralco Sparks.
"I think we're quite lucky to start the season with a real challenge," said Manson. "I am very excited for Tuesday's match."

  1. Now this is interesting! Leigh Manson likes to play Barca style but we will see if it happens or what Palami wants the team to play. I just thought before that Leigh will replace Weiss but i guess i'm wrong..
