THE battle for athletic supremacy between University of Santo Tomas (UST) and Far Eastern University (FEU) is not just limited to volleyball this season.
This came as both teams nipped separate rivals recently at the Erenchun Field inside Ateneo campus.
UST, banking on mid-fielders Mario Clarino and Nicanor Palacio, scored a 2-0 win over deposed champion University of the Philippines (UP) while FEU routed host Ateneo, 4-0.
UP, which holds a 2-6-1 card, dropped out of the championship race after the UAAP board nullified three of its games.
The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) football technical board penalized UP after finding out that two of its players – Ghanaian Ayi Nii Aryee and Nathaniel De Guzman – played for the United Football League (UFL) this UAAP season. The board said State U’s move was a violation to the UAAP by-laws.
In the last game, De La Salle and University of the East settled to a 1-1 draw.
