FAR Eastern University (FEU) defeated University of the East (UE), 1-0, on Sunday to close in on league-leader UST in the men’s football tournament at the Ateneo field.
Romnick Jover scored in the 70th minute, as the Tamaraws improved to 13 points on four wins, a loss and a draw.
UST had a scoreless draw with De La Salle and remained in top spot with 14 points (4-0-2 win-loss-draw).
Gregorio Cancio hit a late goal as Ateneo forced a 1-1 draw against defending champion UP.
Cancio drilled in the goal in injury time, as the Blue Eagles won its second game after losing three and drawing one.
Keith Mordeno knocked in the first goal in the 55th minute but the Fighting Maroons could not stop the Blue Eagles’ charge late in the match.
The Fighting Maroons have 10 points on a 3-2-1 mark.
De La Salle is fifth with four points (1-4-1), while UE is at the cellar with three points on one win and five defeats.
In the women’s side, De La Salle beat Ateneo, 1-0, with Adrianne Yniguez scoring in the 20th minute.
The Lady Archers took the early lead with 11 points on a 3-0-2 card, while the Lady Eagles remained in the cellar with a 0-4-1 mark.
UST defeated UP, 3-1, with Marianne Narciso knocking in all the goals for the Tigresses in the 41st-, 58th- and 76th-minute mark.
The Tigresses improved to 10 points (3-1-1) while handing the Lady Maroons their fourth loss in five matches.
