Defending champions Ceres-Negros will mark their Philippines Football League debut when they face Kaya FC on April 4 at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City.
The busmen will battle it out in the domestic front against a tough Kaya side which they faced last in the semifinals of the inaugural season.
Ceres mastered their rivals with a 3-1 aggregate score over two games to reach the and eventually beat Global in the final.
It will be different this time around as the competition has moved to a pure league format where the team with the most points at the end of the season will earn the right to become Philippine champions.
Kaya FC already had their PFL debut when they travelled to Tagum City to play the Davao Aguilas in their March 5 debut.
Alfred Osei and Kaya-newcomer Connor Tacagni opened the scoring in first half but two goals from Davao’s James Younghusband meant that both teams would have to share the points last March 5.
The Negros squad went into the international break after a hard-fought 1-0 win against Shan United in Yangon in the AFC Cup.
The upcoming match will feature the PFL debut of Toni Doblas and Mike Ott as well as Sean Kane and Takumi Uesato’s domestic debut in a Ceres shirt.
Kaya FC will also be featuring new recruits in Tacagni, Ace Villanueva, and former Ceres defender Camelo Tacusalme. National team players Kevin Ingreso, Patrick Reichelt, and Manny Ott will be also be available for the match.
Expect some fireworks for the match as the two teams have played tight matches in their last three meetings. Stephan Schrock and company will be hard pressed by the visitors who are also eager to secure their first win.
Match starts at 7pm Wednesday night with free admission to the grandstand and bleachers sections. A livestream will be made available by the league for those who cannot be in the venue.
