MANILA, Philippines – Ceres-Negros travels to Cambodia to face Boeung Ket FC on April 11 at the National Olympic Stadium in Phnom Pehn. This will be the second meeting of both squads who are in Group F of the said tournament.
The two clubs first met last February in Bacolod where Ceres produced its biggest winning margin in the tournament. Braces from Takumi Uesato, OJ Porteria, and Bienvenido Maranon plus an own goal by the visitors put Ceres in top spot of the group after Match Day 1.
Both teams have gone to different paths in their next few matches with the Phillipine side still unscathed while the Cambodian out fit has managed one win in the tournament thus far.
The upcoming match will however play a different tune as the Cambodian champs will be eager to get back to the Filipino champions in home soil. Boeung Ket will be parading a complete lineup as two of their foreign imports were not able to feature in their first meeting.
Julius Oiboh will now be available for Boeung Ket as the Nigerian was instrumental in producing their only win against Home United in Match Day 3. His compatriot Samuel Ajayi however will not be present after getting a red card in their last match.
The Cambodian league winners will try to get some form of redemption from their first day defeat and after losing 6-0 against Home United in Singapore in Match Day 4. Ceres will try to recreate their away form against Shan United where they forged a 1-0 victory in Yangon.
Ceres-Negros meanwhile have restarted their domestic season with a win in their first match against Kaya FC-Iloilo. Goals from Manny and Mike Ott highlighted the great team play from the visayan squad after going a goal down midway in the second half.
Coach Risto Vidakovic was able to test new combinations on the PFL leading to the all-important match with Boeung Ket where a win will seal qualification to the knockout rounds of the AFC Cup. The team will however be missing Mike Ott after accumulating a second caution in the last match.
Maranon, Stephan Schrock, and Manny Ott will be picking up where they left off against Shan United in the attempt to reach the next stage for the third straight year.
The match kicks off at 630pm in Phnom Penh (730pm Bacolod time) and will be shown live over cable channel Fox Sports 3.
