Philippines U23 Travels to Bahrain for Friendly

The Philippines U23 Men’s football team will go to Bahrain on 22 March 2017 for two (2) friendly matches against Bahrain’s U23 team. The games will be held on 24 and 26 March 2017 at the Khalifa Stadium.

The national pool for the U23 side has  been training  since late last year  under Head Coach Marlon Maro in preparation for the 2017 SEA Games in Malaysia in August 2017. The team nucleus has played friendly matches against Loyola Meralco Sparks FC, earning a loss  (0-3) and a draw (1-1).  The team drew with Malaysia U22 during a friendly at Rizal Memorial Stadium last 08 December 2016.

“We have a competitive squad in the U23 team whose players come from various clubs and schools.  A vital step in the team’s development is to play more international matches. It is necessary that they play together as much as possible so they can be familiar with each other and have cohesion”, said PFF general secretary Atty. Ed Gastanes.

The U23 team is scheduled for friendly matches against JP Voltes FC and Kaya FC at the Rizal Memorial Stadium before they depart for Bahrain.

  1. Why is Maro still involved with the team he was a total failure in the past?

    2. U23 is critical for the future. It looks like Marlon Maro is best the PFF can come up with. The question that the PFF should answer is that: Does Maro have the tactical strategy to win the game with the talents he have? Which include his ability to recognize football talent. There is a saying in football that the best players have the talents you cannot coach, i.e. those they are born with.

    3. Some people are best at teaching but not good enough in coaching. Maro is not a full time coach because he is also an instructor of AFC and PFF.
