FIFA President offers assistance to Philippines

FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has offered his condolences to the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) following Typhoon Haiyan and offered assistance should they require it.
The estimated death toll stands at several thousand people after the category five typhoon brought about winds of up 275km/h and huge amounts of devastation having made landfall across the centre of the archipelagic nation.
Hundreds of thousands had to be evacuated across the country and more than four million people have been affected, according to the UN, amid mass flooding and destruction of infrastructure.
In a letter to PFF President Mariano Araneta, President Blatter said: “I would like to express my profound sadness and sympathy following the Super Typhoon Haiyan that hit the central Philippines.
“Our thoughts are with the victims of this disaster and their families, and I wish you strength and courage with the recovery and rescue operations,” he continued. “We are at your disposal if special assistance is needed for the football family.”
