MARTINEZ NO LONGER PFF PRESIDENT

MANILA (30 Nov 2010) - Jose Mari Martinez is no longer the president of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) following a unanimous decision of the 7th Ordinary Congress of the federation which was held on the weekend at the Audio-Visual Room of the Philsports Complex in Pasig City.

Twenty-five presidents out of the 29 present members football associations (from a total 33) of the PFF voted to approve a resolution by the eight members of the Board of Governors recommending the removal and replacement of Martinez as president.

Mariano V. Araneta, the current head of the Iloilo Football Association was named as the interim president who will serve out the last year of Martinez’ four-year term.

Araneta was also the chairman of the PFF’s Finance Committee who launched the probe into the federation’s finances.

Ismael Batiles of the Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental Football Association was named the Executive Vice President.

The PFF Congress also took him to task for alleged misuse of the Financial Assistance Plans annual subsidy from the Federation de International Football Association (FIFA).

  1. 25 voices against 1, and his supporters, instead of defending him before congress, chose to leave. Who are we to believe? If his supporters were bought then tit-for-tat, he bought their support anyway. If you live by the sword then expect to die by the sword.

  3. Anonymous1:

Buy them with what? Martinez had support among
the few men within the Board of Governors, not in the entire Congress. Do your math, numbnuts.

  5. there was your answer from funny anonymous...I just presumed that there was vote buying because you used the term "bought" which is the past tense of buy. What do use to buy things for ... money is one ... you did not say you bought a thing but the support of the Board of Governors...you also said "IF his supporters where bought then tit-for-tat..." it is a probability and a possibility but when you state that "he bought their support anyway" that is a factual accusation that needs to be proven. Come to think of it How can he buy their support he doesn't even have the money to reimburse PFF... Am I the numbnuts... you have the wrong choice of word , maybe its the slip of your fingers in the keyboard or maybe there is a truth to it... figures are coming out , not from me , and this time i will put my "Math" knowledge in good use.

  6. No need to argue guys. You are not responding to the correct post/posters. Hear ye then: I, posted the tit-for-tat comment (and that's the only post I made) and it was prefaced by a big IF. Because the basis for that statement was info from published columns that he "bought" votes by promising trips etc. Cash could have been involved, but like the trips, only the beneficiaries will ever know the truth.

Again, IF 50k was paid per president, then I'm sure it wasn't paid to all presidents since Martinez needed to nurse 1/3 of the votes. There were probably 60% already rooting to oust him which means that only 10%, which translates to about 2 or 3 votes, was needed for a 2/3 supermajority to oust. Now lets make the numbers story a bit more interesting; when Leyte FA c/o Dan Palami was allowed to join congress, that meant more votes against Mari. Which is why Mari fought tooth and nail to NOT accept Leyte. Neways, that I think, is the real MATHS.

So back to the point: live by sword die by sword. If you buy one's support, then better expect that you could lose the same support to a higher bidder. And I'd like to think the future of Philippine football constituted the higher bid.

  7. I'm sorry I just could not make sense of that last post so I wouldn't know how to respond. But I take the blame as my conditional "tit-for-tat" sentence was not too clear. No slip of the finger, just a tired mind and eager typing fingers.

So let me rephrase: IF one is accustomed to buying support THEN one must also expect to lose that same support to a higher bidder. Hence the sword reference.

50k did not come from me. Neither did the numbnuts insult.

Just want to make things clear so we can debate the real issues and not make a grammar lesson of this blog, which apparently none of us are experts at.

So starting afresh I have a question for you: How can you say he doesn't have the money to reimburse PFF when he claims otherwise?

  8. As representative of the Laguna Football Association, let me assure you that I voted based on my conscience and what i and my colleagues in Laguna believe is for the good of the game. I did not at any time received any bribe for my vote which is the vote of the LFA. The LFA vote is not for sale. On the contrary, Mari Martinez has on several occasions attempted to bribe our General Secretary to the tune of P40,000 a month to instigate my ouster as President. Everyone knows that Mari is the one who bribes. On my way home, the new president of the Quezon Football Association came with me because he has teams that will participate in our Lumabay-Labay Football festival and during the trip (2 hours), he was worried as to where he is going to get money to pay for the registration fee (P3,000) for one of his team. We resolved the problem but this clearly shows that he was not bribed. So I do not know where Mari gets such information.
Also, I would like to note the presence of 3 uniformed policemen during the proceedings which Mari brought over. I wonder how he was able to get police escorts as a private citizen. I know that this is not allowed.

  9. Lets see if this works this time around.

Thanks for the info Mr. Pacificador but this a reply to the prior post.

I made the tit-for-tat post and did NOT post about 50K NOR did I hurl the numbnuts insult.

My only fault is constructing a bad conditional statement, and lets not turn this into a grammar lesson because clearly, none of us are authorities on language.

So to rephrase: IF one is accustomed to buying support, THEN one should not be surprised to lose the same support to a higher bidder. (There, that should pass the grammar test.) That being said, the live and die by the sword analogy supports both old and new conditional statements. At any rate, I would like to think that the future of Phlippine football constituted the higher bid.

  10. Sorry mr. tit-for-tat anonymous...Anyway I was a bit confused and bothered by mr.funny anonymous statement of 50,000 per vote ,as well as Mr.pacificador allegation of 40,000 a month to bribe the gen sec to oust him . Although this are all hearsay unless proven otherwise... I am more concerned of what will be the future of Philippine football Federation assuming this are all True...But to the sound of it going back to the statements made by Mr. Martinez and Mr. Pacificador for us to view publicly...there is smoke to the issue...and when there is smoke there is fire...whom are we to Trust then...is this a lesson learned or would history repeat itself.
