Dooley saying sorry not enough for Fil-German star's return !

Former Philippine national men’s football team star Stephan Schrock has already apologized to Azkals coach Thomas Dooley following an ugly rift last year which saw the Filipino-German midfielder leave the squad.
But for Schrock to be called up again, saying sorry isn’t enough, according to Dooley.
“I personally accepted his apology,” Dooley told InterAksyon.com. “To come back to the team there has to be more than just texting, ‘I apologize for what happen.’ There must be the trues and correction.”
Last year, Schrock announced his “resignation” from the national team and declared that he wouldn’t suit up for the Azkals until Dooley is at the helm.
The Filipino-German Schrock joined the squad in 2011 while the American-German Dooley took over as the team’s new coach in 2014.
Schrock’s shocking exit was also followed by the departures of fellow foreign-based stars Dennis Cagara and Neil Etheridge who had also expressed their dislike to Dooley.
The three players were apparently unhappy with the playing time given to them by Dooley who has helped some young players gain more exposure for the Azkals.
Dooley then called the revolt of Azkals players “unacceptable, unprofessional and selfish.” He also blasted Shrock for “being a liar.”
The Azkals are currently preparing for their FIFA World Cup qualifiers campaign in June, with a training tour in Bahrain set this month.

Schröck to join Hoffenheim

1899 Hoffenheim have announced their first new signing ahead of next season. Stephan Schröck, who currently plays for Bundesliga 2 leaders SpVgg Greuther Fürth, will move to Sinsheim on a free transfer this summer after the defender put pen-to-paper on a contract lasting until 30th June 2015 with the Kraichgau outfit.

"I'm very much looking forward to the challenge at 1899, who have made a name for themselves on their way to becoming an established side in the Bundesliga," stated Schröck of his move. "I can take the next step in my career here."

Hoffenheim's head coach Markus Babbel had this to say about his first summer signing: "Stephan Schröck was a prime transfer target of mine. He has all the qualities that a modern day defender needs to have. In signing him we have gained the necessary substance and will have more alternatives in our defensive department for the future."

Philippine international on the books

The son of a Philippine mother and German father, Schröck played for DJK Schweinfurt during his early years before moving to SpVgg Greuther Fürth in 2001 as a teenager. In 2004/05 he made the leap into the first team and also represented Germany at both the U-18 and U-20 level.

However last year Schröck announced his intention to play for the Philippines and promptly went on to make his international debut on 29th June 2011 against Sri Lanka. A month later he scored his first goal during a World Cup qualifier versus Kuwait which ended in a 2-1 loss for the Philippines.

Azkals' Schroecki seeks revenge vs Kuwait

by Jojo Malig, abs-cbnNEWS.com

MANILA, Philippines - Azkals midfielder Stephan Schroeck has vowed revenge in the home leg of the Philippines-Kuwait World Cup qualifying tie.

The Filipino-German, who missed the first leg of the tie because of suspension, is expected to pull the strings anew for the Azkals in midfield when they attempt to overhaul Kuwait's 3-goal lead at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Thursday.

"Make sure Manila is burning," said Schroeck, who plays professionally for 2nd Bundesliga club SpVgg Greuther Fuerth.

"Azkals will do it big vs Kuwait. We believe!" he said in his Facebook fan page.

Schroeck is scheduled to arrive in Manila Tuesday.

"He will be a big boost to the team," Azkals team manager Dan Palami told the website of the Asean Football Federation.

Another key member of the Azkals, skipper Aly Borromeo, will also strengthen the Philippines' defense after he served his one-game suspension for incurring 2 yellow cards like Schroeck.

"We have a tough job in Manila because of that 0-3 deficit," Palami said. "If only we could have a complete line-up for Manila. Anything is still possible if we get an early goal and with the crowd behind us."

Azkals gaffer Michael Weiss said Schroeck and Borromeo will be a big boost to the Philippine XI.

"On this level, you need players who have initiative, who are active and Schroeck is one of those and Aly," he told ABS-CBN News correspondent Dyan Castillejo.

Laser pointers

Meanwhile, Azkals goalkeeper Neil Etheridge said he was bothered by laser lights pointed at him by unidentified Kuwaiti fans during their first-leg match.

"I told the referee, but that time he didn’t do anything about it; but that’s football," he said.

"You can not do anything about it when those things happen in the crowd, and you can't stop the game for it," Etheridge added.

Stephan Schrock to rejoin Azkals for second leg against Kuwait

By Cedelf P. Tupas

KUWAIT CITY—Filipino-German standout Stephan Schrock will return to Manila to give the Philippine Azkals more midfield bite in their second round World Cup Qualifying clash against powerhouse Kuwait.
Azkals manager Dan Palami confirmed that Schrock, who was suspended for the first leg, will be arriving tomorrow, two days before the return match against the Kuwaitis at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.
“He will be a big boost to the team,” Palami said of Schrock, who was a key figure in the first-round win over Sri Lanka.
Schrock’s presence is vital for the Azkals, who may continue to miss the services of midfielders Paul Mulders (injury) and Jerry Lucena (club commitments).
Aly Borromeo is also expected to return after serving his suspension. He was seen taking notes during the first game against Kuwait from the grandstand.
Palami agreed with coach Michael Weiss that the 0-3 deficit may be too big to overcome on aggregate. But the two Azkals officials remain hopeful of an upset.
“We have a tough job in Manila because of that 0-3 deficit,” said Palami. “If only we could have a complete lineup for Manila.”
“Anything is still possible if we get an early goal and with the crowd behind us,” said Weiss.

Fil-German doubtful for Azkals

By FRANCIS SANTIAGO

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino-German Stephan Markus Schrock, a right back who plays for the German second division side Greuther Fürth, may likely miss the Philippine Azkals’ build-up for their World Cup qualifying match against Sri Lanka on June 29 because of his commitments with his German squad.

The Philippine Football Federation has lined up a June 7-17 international training camp to prepare the Azkals for the important match, but Schrock who has just recovered from knee injury, said he may not be able to make it because his German club has set up a similar training camp around the same time.

“I don’t know if I can come to the Philippines earlier because my club (in Germany) has a training camp two weeks before we play in Sri Lanka,” Schrock told the Bulletin in an e-mail Wednesday.

“I will discuss the matter in the next few days with the club manager (Dan Palami) and head coach Michael Weiss, so we can clear all details.”

PFF chief Mariano “Nonong” Araneta Jr. said they are looking at Germany as possible venue for their camp.

That after ruling out a Middle East training camp – UAE and Qatar – since football season is on break around the scheduled camp, therefore there won’t be any team to play with.

The 24-year-old Schrock planed in the country while in crutches last month to process his passport.

But he has now recovered, jogging daily to get himself into fighting form.

Fil-German ready to play for Azkals

By Francis Santiago

Filipino-German Stephan Markus Schrock, a highly-touted right back who plays for the German second division side Greuther Fürth, has recovered from his knee injury and looks ready to play when the Philippine Azkals begin their ambitious quest to qualify in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The 24-year-old Schrock, who planed in the country last month to process his passport, was last seen attending the Philippine Sportswriters Association Awards Night while in crutches. But his fast recovery, he said, now allows him to jog and stay fit in time for the World Cup qualifiers this June.

"My recovery is much faster than I and the doctors first thought," Schrock, whose Filipina mother is from Cebu told the Bulletin in an e-mail yesterday.

"I do jogging for 10 days now although I have to build up some muscles around the right knee because I lost a lot of them in the last 12 weeks of my injury."

A self-confessed Manny Pacquiao fan, Shrock has been playing for Greuther Fürth for 10 years now, seven years as a pro with a total of 153 games in the second division. He also played more than 30 games for Germany’s Under-18 and -20 national football teams and was a member of the U-19 squad when the team ranked third in the European championship.

The injury kept Schrock from playing side-by-side with the Azkals in their Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup games in Myanmar, but with his fast recovery, he said he may join the team’s early preparation for its first-round qualifying match against Sri Lanka on June 29 in Colombo.

The Philippines will host the second match of the home and away series on July 3 at either Rizal Memorial Stadium or Panaad Stadium in Bacolod.

Philippine Football Federation chief Mariano Araneta said they are eyeing a Middle East camp for the Azkals’ World Cup preparation, which could be held either in Qatar or UAE beginning June 7.
