Philippines U14 Girls National Team Pool

After the scheduled tryouts in the Philippines, the coaching staff for the U14 Girls National Team have selected 30 players to comprise the U14 Girls National Team Pool.

The team will have a training camp on 30 April – 30 May at the University of the Philippines in Los Baños. Only 18 players from the pool will make the final squad and travel to Vientiane, Laos to represent the country in the AFC Cup U14 Girls Regional Championship 2016 on 30 May – 05 June 2016.

Four Cebuanas make PH U-14 training pool

Four Cebuana junior booters made it to the girls’ under-14 national training pool of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) after the try outs held in Valencia City, Bukidnon recently.

Out of five Cebuanas who joined the try outs, four made it. These are Trizza Mae Musni, Rizame Ugbaniel, Nicole Badinas and Pinky Sotto.

From the pool that includes the Cebuanas, 18 will be selected to the team that will be coached by Joyce Landagan of the PFF for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U14 Girls Regional Championships slated May 31 to June 5.

In preparation, the pool will have a training camp at the Bakers Football Field at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños from this Saturday until May 30.

Philippine team gets 2nd place in U14 Southeast Asia football championship

HO CHI MINH, Vietnam – The girls from the Philippines were the surprise of the Asian Football Confederation U14 girls championship for Southeast Asia. They came in as underdogs and left in second place, one goal away from winning it all.

When the tournament ended Sunday night, June 15, Thailand had taken first place, followed by the Philippines, with Vietnam finishing third and Myanmar fourth.

The Philippines took the Fair Play Award for the tournament, which recognizes the team with “greatest respect for the game.” The most valuable player of the tournament was also from the Philippines: midfielder Joyce Demacio, who scored clutch goals and crucial saves in every game.

During Sunday’s night’s championship game the fast, skilled and very physical team from Thailand picked apart the Philippine team in the first half of the Sunday night championship game in Thong Nhat stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. With footwork like magicians, and lightning speed, the Thai girls kept their counterparts from the Philippines off balance.

The Thai girls were fast and skilled, but they were also very physical. The team from Thailand took every opportunity to deliver barely legal blows on the field of play and the Philippine team did not reciprocate. They delivered goals at 11 and 20 minutes.

The Philippines returned from a soul-searching half time break to rally in the second half. The hard fighting Philippine team started delivering some hard shots of their own, and moved the action to the Thailand side of the field. During the second half, Arantxa Mari Trebol of Cebu City scored the first goal for the Philippines at 51 minutes.

The Philippines battled it out until the last seconds, nearly scoring on multiple occasions but the fast and fierce Thai girls were able to hold onto their lead.

In the run-up to Sunday’s championship, the Philippines defeated Singapore 6-0, Cambodia 5-0 and defending champions Vietnam 1-0. In the semifinals, the Philippines defeated Myanmar 2-1.

The 18 girls on the Philippine national team were chosen based on nationwide tryouts.

U 14 Girls (ASEAN) Philippines 2-1 Myanmar

Ho Chi Minh City: The Philippines advanced to the final of the AFC U-14 Girls Regional Championship (ASEAN) after downing Myanmar 2-1 in their semi-final match at Thong Nhat Stadium in Vietnam on Saturday.
It was Myanmar who scored first through Hnin Mya Thazin on nine minutes but Itsuko Maree Bacatan equalised on 14 minutes before the match went into the break.
The Filipinas took over the lead as Joyce Omboy Semacio scored on 66 minutes to clinch the 70+6-minute game.
The Philippines were vastly improved in this edition as they had finished in fourth position in last year’s inaugural edition also hosted by Vietnam.

Undefeated Philippine U14 Girls National Football Team stuns competitors in AFC Championship

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam – They were the underdogs. They finished fourth last year and most of their players had little or no international experience. They had only six weeks to train. Some girls could barely get a passport in time. Others had never been on an airplane before.

But someone forgot to tell the Philippine U14 Girls National Football Team that they were destined for defeat.

In the Asian Football Confederation Regional Championship for Southeast Asia in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, this week the band of 13 and 14 year old Filipinas faced off against a powerhouse Vietnamese team that trained throughout the year and had the home field advantage.

The tenacious teenagers from the Philippines refused to be intimidated. After a stunning 1-0 upset defeat of Vietnam on Wednesday, and an easy 5-0 victory over Cambodia and 6-0 win over Singapore, the girls from the Philippines emerged undefeated and at the top of every category in the tournament.

Most overall points based on most wins: the Philippine team is first with 9 points, followed by Vietnam with 6.

Most goals scored: The Philippines is at the top with 12.

The number of goals scored against the Philippines during the tournament: 0.

The number of red and yellow card penalties for the Philippines: 0.

In the fiercely competitive match on Wednesday, the Philippine and Vietnamese teams fought careful defensive battles with few opportunities for either side to score. The stalemate was broken when Philippine striker Lindsay Whaley fired a rocket past the Vietnam Goalkeeper Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy at 28 minutes into the first half.

“Vietnam is technically and tactically strong, but our girls played hard,” said Let Dimzon, head coach of the Philippines team. “I was surprised at the intensity of our players. The girls came to play.”

The Vietnamese team was stymied by goalkeeper Yasmin Elauria, who built a brick wall in front of the Philippine goal, while forward Annika Velez kept the pressure on the opponent’s keeper. Midfielders Joyce Semacio and Glynnes dela Cruz, backed up by defenders Tenelyn Otom and Jennifer Baroin, kept the action on the Vietnamese side of the pitch for much of the game.

On Thursday, the Philippine team made short work of Cambodia, which was composed of a struggling team of inexperienced players. Philippine scorers included Joyce Semacio at 26 minutes into the game, Itsuko Bacatan at 44, Lindsay Whaley at 56, and Chloe Hails at 67 minutes. Cambodia accidentally knocked the ball into its own goal at 55 minutes into the game.

The Philippine team takes the day off on Friday and will play Myanmar in the semi-finals on Saturday. Vietnam will take on Thailand the same day. The winners of those two games will play in the championship on Sunday.

According to coach Dimzon, all three of the teams left in the tournament - Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam - are tough competitors that play with a high level of technical skill. None will be an easy victory for the Philippines.

Philippines won 5-0 against Cambodia in the last group match and won the group.

They will  be playing semifinals against  Myanmar on Saturday.

Ho Chi Minh City: The Philippines upset last year’s champions Vietnam 1-0 in their 2014 AFC U-14 Girls Regional Championship (ASEAN) match at Thong Nhat Stadium on Wednesday.

The Philippines, who finished in fourth spot in the inaugural edition last year, went into the match as the underdog but Lindsay Whaley’s goal on 28 minutes sent the Filipinas leapfrogging the hosts over to top spot in four-nation Group A.

Marnelli Salvador Dimzon-led Philippines started their campaign with a bang as they whipped debutants Singapore 6-0 in their opener on Tuesday.

Vietnam commenced their campaign on a similarly encouraging note as Nguyen Tien Minh’s girls thrashed Cambodia 8-0 in Tuesday’s other match.

This year’s edition sees seven nations battling it out in two groups for ASEAN honours with the first edition witnessing only six countries taking part.

The Philippines will take on Cambodia while Vietnam clash with Singapore on Thursday which will determine the group’s leaders and runners-up who will advance to the semi-finals.

Only three nations – Vietnam, Cambodia and the Philippines – are still in reckoning for the top-two finishings with Singapore already out of contention.

Philippine U14 girls national football team dominates Singapore

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam – The Philippine U14 Girls National Football Team trounced Singapore with a 6-0 victory on a soggy field in Vietnam on Tuesday, June 10 at the Asian Football Confederation Regional Championship.

Dark clouds rolled in and a hard rain fell as the two teams paraded their national flags onto the field. The situation only got darker for Singapore as play began. The Philippine team – clearly nervous with most of the young players participating in their first international tournament – dissected their opponents on the pitch.

“The score could have been much higher,” said Philippine team head coach Let Dimzon after the game. “We missed many opportunities to score because our girls were moving slow and heavy. They were nervous. Hopefully, they will loosen up by tomorrow.”

Itsuko Bacatan of Cebu City led the scoring with goals in the first and second half. Joyce Semacio of Davao City scored at 10 minutes into the game and Arantxa Mari Trebol of Cebu City at 46 minutes. Francesca Anne Marie Suerte of Ilo-Ilo City scored at 68 minutes. A Singaporean player accidentally knocked the ball into her own goal at 60 minutes.

On Wednesday, the Philippine team plays Vietnam, which won the tournament last year. The Vietnamese team trains together year around and is seen as a front runner to do well this year. The Philippine team, in contrast, is formed about six weeks before the tournament and undergoes a short but intense training camp.

Vietnam narrowly beat second place Thailand last year. Both teams won four out of five of their games and finished with an overall score of 12 points each. Myanmar finished third with 10 points and the Philippines fourth with 7 points. Cambodia and Malaysia placed last with 1 point each.

This year, the competition is broken into two groups. The Philippines is in Group A with reigning champion Vietnam, Cambodia and Singapore – which is playing in the tournament for the first time this year. The winner, in terms of overall points, from Group A will take on the winner from Group B, which includes Thailand, Myanmar and Malaysia.

Ho Chi Minh: Thailand became the runners-up in the AFC U-14 Girls Regional Championship for the ASEAN region after downing the Philippines 4-0 in their final match at Thong Nhat Stadium on Sunday.
Kanyanat Chetthabutr scored a brace with Anuthida Malasri and Pradthana Songkram also getting on the scoresheet for Nuengrutai Srathongvian’s Thai side.

The Thais finished second on the six-nation table on a single goal difference below hosts and champions Vietnam and above third-spot Myanmar.

Thailand accumulated 12 points from five matches while the Marnelli Salvador Dimzon-led Philippines concluded their campaign on seven points from two wins and a draw and finished on fourth spot.

AFC U14 Girls : Myanmar 1-1 Philippines

Ho Chi Minh: Myanmar and the Philippines maintained their fourth and third spots respectively in the AFC U-14 Girls Regional Championship for the ASEAN region as they drew 1-1 in their penultimate match at Thong Nhat Stadium on Saturday.
The first half went barren of goals in the 70-minute match that was played on a rainy and humid day but that was to change as Myanmar skipper Khine Thazin Phoo scored the match’s opening match on 55 minutes.

Filipina Itsuko Maree Cuizon Bacatan, who had scored four goals in two previous matches against Malaysia and Cambodia, came off the bench after 60 minutes and equalised seven minutes later.

Both nations still have a chance to finish top of the six-nation table and become ASEAN champions if they win their next games and table toppers Vietnam and second-spot Thailand lose theirs.

Marnelli Salvador Dimzon’s Filipinas will face Thailand while Myanmar led by head coach Zin Mar Wann take on Malaysia in the last round on Sunday.

AFC TILT:Phl U14 blanks Malaysia to stay in tournament

After a very disappointing 4-nil loss by the Filipinas last Wednesday against host Vietnam, the national team bounced back Thursday with an overwhelming win over Malaysia, 7-nil, to stay in contention in the ongoing Asian Football Confederation U-14 Girls Championship at the Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, in Vietnam.
The Filipinas sizzled few minutes after the kickoff with a 4th minute goal from striker Cecile Firmeza Deita, as midfielder Joannah Marie Embalsado Adao scored a quick double four minutes later.
With the momentum on the Filipinas, forward Itsuko Maree Bacatan scored double after finding the back of the net in the 19th and 36th minutes to give the Philippine squad a commanding 4-nil advantage.
In the second half, striker Mikhaela Jumawan came in for Dieta in the 44th minute and scored three more goals for the national team: 47th, 48th and 63rd minutes.
Also starting for the Philippine squad against Malaysia are Negrense keeper and team captain Natasha Katerina Lacson, defenders Angela Bea Dongon de Luna, Tenelyn Espana Otom, Icee Calimbo and Jennifer Baroin; midfielders Bianca Almeda, Joyce Omboy Semacio and Khryztel Anne Munich Muring.
On Wednesday, the national squad suffered a blowout from the host team Vietnam, 4-nil, on Nguyen Thi Quynh and Nguyen Thi Nu scoring a pair of goals apiece.

AFC U-14 Girls : Vietnam 4-0 Philippines

Ho Chi Minh: Hosts Vietnam clinched their second win and stayed on top of the table as they beat the Philippines 4-0 in the AFC U-14 Girls Regional Championship ASEAN region at Thong Nhat Stadium on Wednesday. Vietnam, who had a good opening day by thrashing Malaysia 7-1 on Tuesday, was on fire to win this next game and led the Filipinas 2-0 at the half time before doubling the lead to 4-0 at the final whistle.

Nguyen Thi Quynh, who scored a whopping four of the seven goals against Malaysia, recorded a brace, scoring on 24 and 41 minutes, in the meet with the Philippines.

Nguyen Thi Nu, who also got on the scoresheet with a goal against the Malaysian girls, scored a double against the Marnelli Salvador Dimzon-led Filipinas, bulging their net on 29 and 45 minutes.

Vietnam now top the table having won two straight games with Thailand trailing closely on second spot on goal difference.

In two later matches on Wednesday, Myanmar defeated Cambodia 6-0 while Thailand downed Malaysia 8-1.

The Philippines, who equalled Vietnam by opening their campaign with also a 7-1 victory over Cambodia, will play the Malaysians while the hosts led by head coach Nguyen Thi Khanh Thu face Myanmar on Thursday.
