Ceres-Negros FC fell to 0-1 defeat at home against Becamex Binh Duong last May 15 at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City. Wander Luiz scored and unlikely goal late in the match to seal their qualification to the knockout rounds.
It was the visitors who had the earliest chance to go ahead after was penalty was awarded to Becamex by the referee. Ahn Duhc stepped in for the visitors but he missed his attempt shooting a yard wide of the most.
Victor Mansaray had the first chance on goal from a distance but Roland Muller easily collected the shot. OJ Porteria had his own shot into the bottom corner but Tan Truong did well for the save.
Both teams were playing tight as chances were a few and far between in the remainder of the first half. A chance from Luiz from outside the box midway didnt bother Muller while a shot from Miguel Tanton went over the bar.
Porteria had a clean chance from distance in the 41st but the shot was off target. The half finished with both teams still scoreless.
It was the visitors who showed the most urgency in the second half as a well timed run allowed Luiz for a volley but his strike was well over the bar. The Brazilian found the back of the net in the 50th after a breakaway header but the assistant referee found the striker offside.
Ceres-Negros found the back of the net five minutes later when Carlie De Murga volleyed the ball off a rebound in a corner but the other assistant referee ruled the play offside even when a defender was behind the Ceres veteran.
Needing a win to make it in the semis, the Vietnam club pushed the tempo in the final thirty with To Van Vu and Max putting the Ceres keeper at work.
The home squad had a good chance off a volley from Bienvenido Maranon but the Vietnamese keeper did very well to prevent the goal. OJ Porteria redirected a Stephan Schrock delivery but it didn’t bother Tan Truong.
t was two minutes from time when the visitors went ahead after Luiz dispossessed substitute Joshua Dutosme before releasing a floating ball that was too far ahead for Roland Muller.
The busmen tried to get a goal back but it wasnt enough as Becamex went away with the win and joined Ceres-Negros in the ASEAN semifinals.
The result meant that Becamex Binh Duong will face PSM Makassar in the other semifinal while Ceres will tussle with former rivals in Hanoi FC. The first leg of the semifinal will be held in Bacolod on June 18 while the return leg in Hanoi is set on June 25.
