Suzuki Cup: Azkals to miss Patiño, Sato

By:

The Philippine Azkals absorbed a heavy blow with Javier Patiño and Daisuke Sato ruled out of the AFF Suzuki Cup, just three days before they open their campaign against Singapore on Saturday at Philippine Sports Stadium.
With their respective clubs not compelled to release them for national team duty as the tournament doesn’t fall on Fifa dates, Patiño and Sato will miss the Suzuki Cup that will be held for the first time in the country.
The impending absence of Patiño deprives the Azkals of another quality striker.

But the bigger loss is Sato, who played solid at central defense in the 1-0 win over Kyrgyzstan. The Azkals are short on options at that position with only Amani Aguinaldo as a natural centerback.
Azkals coach Thomas Dooley could try out leftback Jeffrey Christiaens or defensive midfielder Dennis Villanueva to pair up with Aguinaldo on Saturday.
Although the season in China is already finished, Patiño reportedly renewed his deal with Henan Jianye, signing a two-year $5 million pact. Sources said the striker risks termination of his contract with the club in the event that he gets injured while seeing action for the Azkals.
“The prize money in the Suzuki Cup is not even enough to cover his one month salary,” said one of the sources.
Sato returned to Iasi, Romania, where his club is based early this week with the hope that the Philippine Football Federation could successfully negotiate for his release.
But Romanian first division side Politehnica Iasi told the Fil-Japanese defender Wednesday that he needed to stay with the club as it has seven games until Dec. 17.
“Maybe if they (PFF) were able to negotiate for my release, things could have changed,” Sato told the Inquirer. “But right now, it’s too late.”

  4. Too much reliance kasi tayo sa foreign based players ng Azkals. The best solution is develop what is left here in our country and give them trust cause no matter what you say those guys cannot help for now.

Khit nmn mg import sila di nmn agad sila mka world cup kya focus on locals

    2. Yes i agree, lets focus in our grass roots and then time will tell. But as of now lets support them for the upcoming AFF Suzuki Cup.

      Delete

    5. Azkals is a part of PFF, they are the PFF Men's National Team. I wonder why would Azkals staff conduct scouting? And giving trainings and seminars ? I wonder why? Isn't that preparing the grass roots ? We don't need infrastructure to get and to forge good full blooded filipino football player(For example South Africa's Men's national team) we just need someone who has the willingness to teach and to train our youths.

And please for those of you from Philippines sports commission stop corrupting the funds for our national teams.

Now we are experiencing the effects of the corruption of Philippines Sports Commission that's why our national teams in every sports are incompetent.

      Delete
    6. Conducting seminars is only to create awareness.

Scouting is not really grassroots because the players they are scouting are those eligible to play in the senior team...

If we do not have the proper facilities how do we train our youth?

Wow Eric Dimzon you are not only ugly youre really stupid too.

      Delete
Umpisa ng grassroots 4yrs old.

At yung blogger na yun nag background search nalaman rrputation ni Eric Dimzon at sinabihan siya na be gone you are a person of ill repute lol!

    8. the only way to reach higher achievements is through grass roots.. philippines lack infrastructure to produce better local players from mindanao, visayas and luzon. yung nagsasabing south africa na hindi kailangan nang grass roots, look at those other african nations, their players werent playing in local professional leagues, they were scouted by european teams and paid their clubs with millions of dollars, and then they can improve their training ground etc.. thats just football and business mixing up. unlike here where teams are mostly run by companies. they couldnt care less with the grass roots of phil football, they only care about players from differenct colleges and offer them money, we're almost actually the same as US soccer teams, they still drafting players from differenct universities while other players (potencial world class players) are constistently grt ignored because of the simple but true fact that they are not in college. grass root system is the only way. even if youre a half breed playing in other countries, or local lad getting their chances in other countries, it's still the same. as long as you're playing for your country. only insecure pinoys cannot accept this fact.
