Stallion hopes to keep pace with UFL leaders

STALLION-Sta. Lucia seeks to keep pace with the leaders when it faces Philippine Air Force Thursday in the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.



Thriving under a new system that suits fine a team lacking in defensive rotation, the reigning UFL Cup champions have been on a roll in the early part of the season by winning their first four games, the latest a 2-1 win over Kaya last week.

And the Stallions, three points behind frontrunner Global with 12 points, hope to sustain the streak against the Airmen in their 7:30 p.m. meeting.

“We’re a little bit hesitant still with our movements but they are starting to understand what we are trying to do. It’s a learning process for us,” Stallions coach Ernie Nierras said as he continues to rely on Spanish stalwarts Rufo Sanchez and Joaco Cañas, as well as Filipino skipper Balut Doctora.

The Ian Araneta-led Airmen, still reeling from the departure of stalwart Chieffy Caligdong, hope to finally barge in the win column after starting the season with three losses, including a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Green Archers United in their last game.


Nomads, with 10 points in five matches, tries to land a spot in the top three of the standings when it takes on PSG earlier at 5:15 p.m.

Currently in the midst of a back-breaking schedule, Nomads will play its third game in six days against a PSG side that’s also aching for a breakthrough after four straight losses.

As if the string of setbacks are not enough, adding to PSG’s woes is the case of booter Gerald Orcullo, who was arrested, along with two others, last week for alleged drug pushing.
