Manila: The Philippines went down to a 2-1 defeat to Myanmar on Wednesday as the Qualifying Group C hosts made a losing start in their campaign for a place in the AFC Women's U-16 Championship 2013.
The first half of the match at the Rizal Memorial Track and Football Stadium before Myanmar midfielder Wai Zin Hnin broke the deadlock five minutes after the interval.
Myanmar coach Phone Naing replaced Thandar Soe with Phyu Hnin Thwe for the second half and it turned out to be an inspired move with the substitute striker doubling her side's advantage a minute shy of the hour mark before Philippines' skipper Shannon Arthur scored a last minute consolation for the hosts.
With one round of Group C matches played Australia top the standings following their emphatic 5-1 victory over Thailand in Wednesday's earlier match with the Philippines third on goal difference ahead of the Thais.
The qualifying competition sees the fourteen lowest-ranked teams divided into four geographically-based groups with the teams in each centralised group playing in a round-robin league format. The winner and runner-up of each group will qualify for the AFC U-16 Women's Championship 2013.
