PHILIPPINE Football Federation (PFF) President Mariano Araneta said that three Filipino-Belgian players would reinforce the Philippine Under-23 football team that will compete in the 26th Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) in November in Indonesia.
Araneta identified the new additions as Angelo Verheye, Johan Van Bosche and Jeffrey Christiaens. All three are players in Belgium’s second division football club.
“They are invited to play here for the national team because they might empower our SEAG medal campaign,” said Araneta. “Azkals manager Dan Palami told me their addition would help us not only in SEAG but also in other upcoming tourneys abroad.”
Patrick Ace Bright, the Azkals’ team coordinator said in a separate interview that the three players are set to arrive in Bacolod on September 8 to join the U-23 team in a scheduled training camp.
The U-23 team under German coach Hans Michael Weiss is undergoing training at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in preparation for the Long Teng Cup on September 30 to October 4 and the SEAG on November 11 to 22.

kasali ba sa u23 si joshua beloya yung galing sa fc zurich?
ReplyDeleteHopefully the home grown players will be given an opportunity to have the much needed international exposure such as the seagames so they may improve their quality of play and skills.
ReplyDeleteThe Fil Foreigners are welcome to reinforce the national u23 team but the core of the team should be the local players.
This is the best way to develop football in the coutry.

ReplyDeleteI pretty much agree with that but when you have the likes of Palami and Araneta coming out and saying that they want a medal in the SEA Games, then there's a need for a bit more quality in the U23's. The only way for that is to bring in a few more foreign based players at the expense of locals.

No it's not! You don't develop domestic football by trying to continuously play internationals. It's much more in depth and complex than that.
Apparently there were some inaccuracies in the article. Angelo plays for the KAA Gent reserves (first division), Jacques Van Bossche(not Johan which is the name of his father) plays for Wetteren reserves (second division) and Jeffrey plays for Torhout first team (third division)
ReplyDeleteAs for Beloya, apparently he was invited along with Dolino and Bedic.
