SIX girl booters from Davao City have been named to the Philippine team that will see action in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-16 Women's Championship 2011-Qualification Round 1 Group A tournament, which gets underway on October 15 to 24 at the University of Makati football field in Makati.
Named to represent the country in the coming international tournament are Kyrhen Angela Dimaandal, Janna Raizel Barcemo, Noreen Kim Maligad, Alyssa Marie Ang and Erika Lorraine Turtur of the Ateneo de Davao University, and Sheinna April Chavez of the Holy Child Academy of Davao.
The girls, aged 12 to 15, were selected after a couple of rigid try-outs conducted by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF). The first try-out was held in Davao City last August and the second was staged in Manila last September 25 to 26.
A total of 42 girls from all over the country were invited to the RP training pool and only 23 of them made it to the RP team. The other members of the national squade came from Manila and others provinces in Luzon (13), Bacolod (2), Cebu (2) and Dumaguete (1).
The Philippine team will be playing against Singapore, Vietnam, Guam and Timor Leste in the Qualification Round Group A tournament. Playing in group B are India, Uzbekistan, Iran, Jordan and Bahrain.
Dimaandal, Ang, Maligad and Turtur were the first batch of Davao City booters who competed in the prestigious Gothia World Youth Soccer Cup inm Sweden in July 2008. The youngest of them, Barcemo, is only 12 years old and is a member of the Philippine Team U-13 ladies soccer team that saw action in Vietnam last July 2010.
The six girls and some of theoir parents will be leaving for Manila on October 8 as the RP team opens its training camp at the Ultra in Pasig.
Meanwhile, Maan Cadayona has been picked by the Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) as its sport scholar in soccer after her high school graduation from the Ateneo de Davao University last March 2010 together with Celina Simone Jaldon.
