Phil Younghusband optimistic about Loyola's title chances
MANILA, Philippines – Despite sitting out the first two games of his club due to an injury, Phil Younghusband is confident about their chances of clinching this year's United Football League (UFL) title.
The Loyola Meralco Sparks FC star striker told the media in an interview during the presser for his new sports show, with his brother James Younghusband, that even though they had a slow start to this season, he is happy with their two consecutive wins.
"We haven't performed like the way we would've liked but we still won the games."
The Sparks have notched a 2-0-0 win-loss-draw card after sailing through Team Socceroo FC and Manila Jeepney FC to open their campaign in the UFC. He said he was frustrated that he had skip those games of Loyola but stressed that he is impressed with the performance of the new additions to their team.
P. Younghusband, who has been a vital cog in the Azkals and Loyola FC frontline, is nursing a hamstring strain but is expected to be fit to play within the next 5-6 days.
Meanwhile, amidst the upcoming games of Global FC and Ceres La Salle FC in the AFC Cup, he said Loyola targets to acquire the same honor of representing Philippine football on an international level.
"Hopefully, next year. We feel that we have enough quality and I think we're on the same level as Global and Ceres. It would be nice to see Meralco play there next year." –

Global FC set to acquire Loyola Meralco star left winger Matthew Hartmann
From: Karlo Sacamos
GLOBAL FC is set to gain a major boost in time for the start of its Asian Football Confederation Cup group stage campaign next week. The defending United Football League champions are set to acquire Loyola Meralco star Matthew Hartmann ahead of the continental tournament starting against South China of Hong Kong, a Sparks insider revealed on Tuesday. The deal is yet completed as it is still undetermined as to who Loyola gets in return. “What’s clear is Matt is going to Global,” said the source, who requested not to be named. “As to if there is a trade for somebody else is yet to be finalized.” Whoever Loyola gets in exchange still makes the move surprising as the Simon McMenemy-mentored Sparks have agreed to ship a standout left winger, who has been instrumental to their National Club Championship conquest and in the early goings of the UFL league. Asked who gets the better end of the transaction, the source said it “depends on how the manager or coach sees it.” “Sa akin, asset si Matt. Pero depende sa diskarte ng coach yan eh,” the Loyola official said. “Normally, you wouldn’t allow that to happen na you’d be willing to give away one of their best performers, if not the best, recently,” the source was quick to add. “Pero kanya-kanyang diskarte yan.” The move will reunite the 25-year-old Hartmann with younger brother and Global striker Mark. Global coach Leigh Manson declined to comment on the matter as of posting time.

Global FC AFC Cup home game moved to Rizal Memorial
MANILA, Philippines - Due to ‘logistical’ issues, the earlier announced home game of Global FC for the AFC Cup at the newly built Philippine Sports Stadium (PSS), will now be moved to the country’s national football stadium inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
According to the club’s chief executive Dan Palami, they opted to hold the first home game at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium instead of the PSS because of time restrictions.
“The inspection could not be done on time because of the logistical requirements. We had to forgo the first game at the PSS. If the process was done earlier, I think we would have been able to get the permit to play in the PSS.”
The defending UFL champs are scheduled to play Hong Kong’s South China AA here in the country on February 25 for the continental club football tilt’s group stage.
Meanwhile, Palami revealed that he is still uneasy about their chances of emerging victorious in the tournament due to the slow start of Global’s campaign in the UFL.
“[I am] still worried because these are stronger teams that we have to face. We need to be more clinical on our finish to make sure that we don’t lose a lot of scoring opportunities. It’s a different level there.”
Aside from the match against South China, Global FC will be playing two more home games in the cup against Myanmar’s Yadanarbon FC and Malaysian club Pahang FA, venues of which are yet to be revealed.
