PFF Statement On Terry Butcher

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) accepts with understanding the announcement of Coach Terry Butcher not to proceed as head coach of the National Team of the Philippines.

We wish Mr. Butcher good luck.

The PFF will continue with the necessary team preparations for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2018 this November and the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 in January 2019.

Home tiffs spice up Azkals’ AFC Cup bid

Home games at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod will spice up the campaign of the Philippine Azkals national men’s football team’s campaign in the 2018 Asean Football Federation-Suzuki Cup.

 ​Philippine Football Federation president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta said this will happen this November.

The Azkals, who is coached by Terry Butcher, will be involved in a five-team round-robin group stage of the Suzuki Cup, which will feature a new home-and-away format.

First, the Philippines will host Singapore in Bacolod’s Panaad Stadium on Nov. 13 before playing either Brunei or Timor Leste away four days later. 

On Nov. 21, the Azkals will clash with Thailand at the Panaad Stadium.

They will close out their group stage against Indonesia, in an away game in Jakarta, on Nov. 25.

The semis will then run from Dec. 1 to 6, with the two-leg finals being held on the 11th and 15th.

Meanwhile, team manager Dan Palami said they have appointed Melchor Miras Jr. as Advertising Manager.

Miras will handle the marketing and promotion of the Azkals, which will be in coordination with other partners that the management has in the pipeline.

He is currently the Chairman of Media Puzzle Inc., one of the country’s largest advertising companies.

Media Puzzle Inc. specializes in Out-Of-Home media, including being the sole advertising manager along the whole MRT-3 route along EDSA in Manila. 

“Jun is a great addition to our team. We want the Azkals to be around and in people’s consciousness even when there are no immediate matches. Of course, the funds we can generate through advertising will also be very important for our campaigns in the Suzuki Cup, Asian Cup, and beyond,” said Palami.

AFF U16: Myanmar rout Philippines

SURABAYA (2 Aug 2018) – Myanmar got their campaign back on track with a 7-0 routing of the Philippines while Timor Leste overcame Cambodia 2-1 on the third match day of Group A of the AFF Under-16 Championship here in Surabaya.

Both Myanmar and Timor Leste were at the losing end in their last match in the group with the former going down to hosts Indonesia 2-1 while Timor Leste were whipped 4-0 by Vietnam.

“We really wanted to win today to put the bad memory of losing the last match behind us,” said Myanmar head coach Nyi Nyi Latt after the match at the Delta Sidoarjo Stadium.

“The players are improving and the team is getting better which is important. We have to maintain tactical discipline.”

Even at half pace, Myanmar were still too hot to handle for the Philippines when they conceded their first goal of the game after just two minutes when goalkeeper Jetrick Fabrigas failed to make a clean save of captain Naung Naung Soe’s stiff grounder.

The Philippines tried to stem the tide but Aung Ko Oo’s second goal for Myanmar in the 25th minute shook Jetrick’s confidence as he went on to make several more mistakes to allow the latter to race to a 4-0 lead at the half.

Myanmar’s two other goals were scored by Naung Soe in the 24th minute and Zaw Win Thein.

The change for France Santos Barrera between the posts injected some confidence to the Philippines backline.

But Myanmar were just too slick in the attack as they added further goals from Pyae Phyo Aung in the 46th minute, Khun Kyaw Zin Hein (53rd) and Wai Yan Soe (77th).

“We are disappointed and sad with the results,” said Philippines head coach Reiji Hirata.

“We are always looking to improve and in spite of the result, I thought that the players did better in their last game.”

Asia's elite set to vie for two Tokyo 2020 tickets

Kuala Lumpur: The journey to identify the two teams who will be joining Japan in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Women’s Football Tournament has begun, following the official draw for Round 1 of the Asian Qualifiers at the AFC House on Thursday.

The Qualifiers will be played over three rounds, with 18 teams participating in Round 1, while Vietnam and Uzbekistan received automatic qualification to Round 2 due to their ranking as the sixth and seventh highest Asian teams respectively.

Australia, DPR Korea, Korea Republic, China PR and Thailand have all qualified for the final round of the Qualifiers as Asia’s top five ranked teams (in descending order).

Reigning AFC Women's Asian Cup champions Japan have already qualified for the 2020 Olympics Finals as hosts and will not be taking part in the Asian Qualifiers.

In Round 1 of the Asian Qualifiers, Chinese Taipei were drawn with Philippines, Singapore, Tajikistan and first-time participants Mongolia in Group A.

Group B features Islamic Republic of Iran, who will be making their third appearance in the Qualifiers, Hong Kong and two-time WAFF Women’s Championship winners United Arab Emirates, as well as debutants Macau and Lebanon.

Myanmar reached Round 2 of the Qualifiers four years ago and will look to outdo their previous best as they go up against four-time SAFF Women’s Championship title holders India, Nepal and Bangladesh in Group C.

Jordan, who hosted the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, are grouped with Indonesia, Palestine and Maldives in Group D.

The five-team Group A and B are set to kick-off their Round 1 campaigns on November 4, with Group C and D action starting on November 8. The winners and runners-up of each group, along with the two best third-placed teams will advance to Round 2, scheduled for next April.

The 12 teams will then be divided into three groups of four teams, with the winners of each group progressing to Round 3, which is set for January or February 2020.

Round 3 of the Asian Qualifiers will have two groups of four teams, with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the two-leg Playoff in March 2020, and the two winners shall join Japan in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
