Phl blasts Hong Kong in AFC elims opener

MANILA, Philippines - Jean Brigette Kadil and Christina Marie De los Reyes struck as the Philippines trounced Hong Kong, 2-0, for a hot start in the AFC U-19 Women’s Championships Qualifiers Wednesday night at the Rizal Memorial Football Field.

Kadil opened up scoring for the hosts in the 71st minute while De los Reyes followed it up with a strike seven minutes later as the Pinay teeners chalked up three points for the victory, staying close behind Myanmar in Group C of the first round of the qualifiers for the 2013 Asian U-19 bootfest. Myanmar took the lead on goals scored with its 3-1 triumph over Chinese Taipei in the other game.

Phl XI and Myanmar face off tonight at 6 p.m. gunning for a win to move closer to a spot in the Qualification Round 2.

“After this win, we’re really optimistic about our chances,” said De los Reyes, also a mainstay of the Phl women’s national team Malditas. “We’ve watched the game between Myanmar and Chinese Taipei; they’re pretty intense and run a lot of combination, so we need to prepare for them. But overall, we’re optimistic.”

The Filipinas peppered the Hong Kong bets with shot after shot but could only find the mark in the second half.

Kadil, seeing that HK defenders were concentrating on the left flank, dribbled her way to the other side and knocked the ball in as the home crowd celebrated the maiden goal. De los Reyes, who came in as sub for Alessandra Camcam, pounced on a 1v1 situation against keeper Chan Tsz Ching to slam it home and double Phl’s lead.
“We were somehow rushing our shots in the first half, just trying to bombard Hong Kong. So in the second half, we made some adjustments and went for more composure in our buildups and this resulted in two goals coming from central midfielder Kadil and one breakthrough for Christina De los Reyes. Hopefully, this win will give us momentum against Myanmar (tonight) and also against Chinese Taipei (on Sunday),” said assistant coach Franklin Cacacho.

AFC U-19 Women`s - Philippines lose to Uzbekistan

Philippines lost 0-4 to Uzbekistan in AFC U-19 Women`s Championship qualifiers .

The match was played in Makati.

Philippines lost also the first match against Myanmar and finished last in group.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine team suffered its second straight defeat, bowing to the taller and heftier Uzbekistan squad, 4-0, in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-19 Women’s Championship Group A Qualifiers (Round 1) held recently at the University of Makati football field.

Though dwarfed in size, the RP squad gamely battled the Uzbekistan squad in the first half as the Uzbeks took only a 1-0 halftime despite dominating the game with their precise passing.

But lack of international exposure told heavily on the Nationals as they yielded three more goals in the second half to finish the qualifying tournament organized by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) and backed by Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) without scoring a goal.

Still, the Nationals can take pride for their gutsy performance, especially from goal keeper Inna Kristianne Palacios who made several great saves that prevented their rivals from scoring more goals.

The Nationals also lost to Myanmar, 5-0.

Meanwhile, the PFF family mourned the death of many-time national team member Danny Wieneke.. He was 72.

Myanmar Routs RP XI

MANILA, Philippines —The Philippine team put on a courageous fight but still suffered a stinging 1-4 defeat to the more experienced and composed Myanmar squad in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-19 Women’s Championship Group A Qualifiers (Round 1) Wednesday at the University of Makati football field.

The Nationals yielded only one goal in the first half but the physically stronger and technically better Myanmar squad intensified its attack in the second half to score four more goals and complete its domination over the RP squad.

So tough were Myanmar players that three RP girls were carried out on stretcher due to their aggressive plays in the event organized by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) and supported by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

“My players gave their best but we certainly lack match exposure and that showed,” said coach Alfredo Estacion.

With the loss, the Nationals need a huge win over the taller and heftier Uzbekistan squad in today’s 3 p.m. showdown to have a fair chance of advancing to the second round.

RP Booters vs Myanmar in Qualifying Tilt

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine team goes for an all-important win when it battles Myanmar this Wednesday in the three-nation AFC Under-19 Women’s Championship Qualifying Round 1 at the University of Makati football field.

The RP Under-19 squad has trained long and extra hard for the event but is expected to face stiff competition from Myanmar which gave Uzbekistan a big scare before bowing out, 1-0, last Monday.

Game time is set at 3:30 p.m.

But the biggest test for the Alfredo Estacion-mentored RP Under-19 squad will be on Friday when it collides against the taller and heftier Uzbekistan squad in the event organized by the Philippine Football Federation, headed by Jose Mari Martinez.

Philippine Sports Commission, now headed by Richie Garcia, is backing the event.

Kyra Tagbo and Mara Sabanal are the team’s captains.

Hong Kong – the fourth team – begged off from taking part in the tournament due to the travel ban imposed by Hong Kong authorities in the aftermath of the hostage fiasco at Luneta the claimed the lives of eight Hong Kong tourists.

The No. 1 team in the single-round play advances to the second round slated late this year.

Philippines host AFC U-19 Women`s Championship qualifiers !

Manila will be hosting AFC U-19 Women`s Championship qualifiers. Group A qualifiers will take place from 20. to 24. September with Philippines, Myanmar, Uzbekistan and Hong Kong.

The top team from each group will advance to the second round.

The second round of qualifiers will be held from October 21 to 30, 2010 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
