Philippine FF receives League Development Award

The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) has been awarded the League Development Award for the creation of its new league - the Philippines Football League (PFL) - and its extensive work on league governance.

Successor to the former top-tier football league in the Philippines, the PFL celebrated its inaugural season in 2017, with Ceres Negros clinching the title.

PFF President Mariano V. Araneta Jr. was presented with the award by AFC Development Committee Chairman Zhang Jian after the 28th AFC Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“This is an award that will inspire us to improve our league, and our clubs to do better. We hope that the PFL continues for many years to come,” said the PFF President.

He added: “During the last two years, the attendances have improved, and in the next season, two more clubs will be joining the PFL, which means we are back to maximum strength.

“We also have a new marketing group that will be assisting us, and they will also take care of the commercial aspects of the league, so we are expecting a better performance next season.

“With the support from AFC, we are delighted that the league has improved the quality of our players. As the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 draws closer, our players will play better because of the league.’

PFF is the second Member Association to be presented with the League Development Award, with the United Arab Emirates Football Association receiving the award in February for its unique project on media training designed for professional players.

    2. It means that 8 is better than 6(right?)... we have 12 before in the former UFL, but those buttom teams usually gets routed by 5 to 10 or more goals.. So i guess thats how it explains why they say 8 is our maximum strength, for a small footballing country like ours 10 to 12 is maybe Overextension for us now, it will be less competitive at that number... You have to understand that! & if your a fan you have to be happy about that news. Listen Global was rank at the buttom of the table & you have Ceres getting elimanated in the Cup's group stage so that is 6 strong, & its a good time to add two more clubs.. 10 or 12 teams strong is maybe stills years away... I guess you found it funny when the PFF uses the word "maximum strength", but allow me to explain to you that its safe to say that because 1)we have a league that is rank 17th in Asia which is good because we are rank ahead rich & big time leagues like Hong Kong PL, V.League 1, S.League, Bahraini, Lebanese, Kuwaiti & Omani PL's.. 2)And we have clubs that are rank the best in Asia, Ceres(rank 48, just below the likes of Brisbane Roar(47), Muangthong United(44), Melbourne Victory(38), ..), you also have Global at 67(below Home United(66), ahead of South China(68), Tampines Rovers(73) ..), and lastly Kay at 103(ahead of the likes of Asian powerhouse Central Coast Mariners(105), Persib Bandung(106), Selangor(108), Balestier Khalsa(110), Persija Jakarta(113), Felda United(114), Bali United(116)...), our clubs are doing well at AFC CL and AFC Cup i guess you heard that right? And its not there fault that PFL games have low attendance(because of the filipinos not having enough interest of the beutiful game) and that they are struggling the survive financially... The PFL has no TV contract and it lacks sponsorship, its not there fault and our players are doing well for club and country... So i guess the word strength is applicable for our league, our clubs and our players, because we among the best in Asian Football, despite the circumstance and the challenges being face by the PFF and the PFl, well deserve award, congratulations...
