Azkals bow to North Korea in friendly to come up empty-handed in home stand

THE Philippines committed the same mistakes and suffered the same result as it bowed to North Korea, 3-1, in their international friendly on Monday night to come up empty handed in a two-match home stand at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Coming off a loss to Bahrain with the same scoreline last Friday, the Azkals put up another sluggish start as they surrendered two early goals once again before letting the North Koreans pile the pressure with another goal in the second half at the rain-soaked venue.
Iain Ramsay came off the bench and pulled a goal back for the Filipino booters, but it proved too little, too late as they failed to duplicate their stunning 3-2 win over the North Koreans in the World Cup qualifiers last March.
Pak Kwang Ryong broke the Azkals’ defense 11 minutes into the match with a header off a corner, before Pak Song Chol and Jong Gwan also scored for the visitors, past ‘keeper Roland Muller.
The Azkals got in the score sheet courtesy of Ramsay, who came in at halftime and chipped in a goal past the North Korean ‘keeper in the 76th minute.

  1. Is there another scheduled friendly before the Suzuki Cup? This will show everybody if Dooley was able and capable to recognize the problem and fix it.

    1. Jonny, there is a very good blog in "Usapang Football"
under "The Philippine Azkals’ future is being built on youth" that your Filipino friends should read. As an American with lots of Filipino friends, I commend and applaud the intention of the Filipino blogger.

  3. November 9 is then the moment of truth for Dooley. I have always consider him an over rated soccer player and coach. Remember the 1998 USMNT at the WC, Dooley the captain of the team who lost all group games.

    4. WC in 1994 was in the USA, so home court advantage. Also, out of the 4 teams in group A, USA was the 3rd.
      1. Romania 2. Switzerland 3. USA 4. Colombia. So Colombia was at the bottom, not the best team of the group.

    1. hindi naman. ang sinasabi ko lang, maganda disiplina as a team. maganda movements sa game, simple touches, simple pass and move and support. tas defending lahat naguusap and bumababa and fitness nila maganda. i mean, yung influence ng japanese players/coach sakanila sobrang laki. and imagine most of their local players (if not all) dito talaga sa philippines natuto maglaro. and in 1 season sa 1st division sa ufl sobrang umangat lalo na football IQ ng mga local players nila again dahil sa japanese players and coach nila. imagine isang japanese or korean coach na may mataas na coaching lisence ang humawak sa national team. anyway thanks for asking happy to clear things out (sana hindi magulo pag explain ko) haha
