TOP teams will try to hold on to their leads as the 13th Aboitiz Football Cup resumes tomorrow at the Aboitiz Sportsfield in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
The change of tournament format to a league-type had the teams considering every match of extreme importance as the team with the most number of wins would end up as the category champion.
Leading the players 8 category is defending champions Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) 1, which holds six wins in as many games handing it 18 points.
Trailing DBTC 1 is sister team DBTC C which holds a 5-2 (win-loss) record and is just three points adrift of the top spot.
In the players 10, currently tied with 19 points is DBTC E and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC). Both teams have six wins and one draw.
However, DBTC E has the upperhand with its goal difference (GD) of 48 while SHS-AdC trails with a GD of 34.
Sharing the same number of points in the boys 12 with 18 are Springdale and DBTC 1. Springdale, however, has yet to drop a match in six games while DBTC 1 tallies one lose after playing seven matches.
In the boys 14, Springdale leads defending champions DBTC A with a point. Springdale accumulated 14 points with four wins and two drawn matches while DBTC A tallies 13 points with four wins, one lose and one drawn match.
Abellana National School (ANS) Pomeroy looks unchallenged in the boys 17 having won all four of its matches so far and handing the team 12 points. Three points adrift is Cebu International School (CIS). The team, however, have lost three of its six matches so far.
In the distaff categories, SHS-AdC teams lead the girls 14 and girls 17.
In the girls 14, SHS-AdC is tied with St. Theresa's College (STC) with three points apiece. However, the former has yet to lose a match while the Theresians have already dropped one of the two matches it played so far.
In the girls 17, SHS-AdC has set the bar high with its two wins and one draw equivalent to seven points. Currently trailing at second place is STC with one win, one draw and a loss.
The Men's Cup, on the other hand, is dominated by the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) Alumni with 15 points.
The University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Alumni is nipping at their heels with 12 points . Both teams have yet to drop a match.
Men’s League defending champion Crazy Horse is determined to retain its title after winning all of its five matches so far. At second place with nine points is USPF after winning three of its five matches so far. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
