Major changes in Davao Aguilas' locker

Davao Aguilas makes changes in their squad in attempt to bolster the ever growing family of the club.

The first of six players to confirm their change of team colors, was Wes Dos Santos. “This club is very good in this country. I think it’s the best club to be part of right now. Coach already asked me to train hard and prepare for the 18th as I want to play already.” He was then followed by Patrick Deyto who is also his teammate back in Global. Not to mention, Marco Casambre, a young left-footed defender with a very bright future especially gaining a spot in the national team, who also came from Global, has signed for Davao. “Davao is one of the biggest clubs in the PFL and talagang professional yun paghawak sa club so kailangan maging professional din ako para sa club na ito. I hope na we will get to the finals and win this league and hoping we will make it to AFC next season.”

Diego, who is also a Brazilian like Wes Dos Santos, has played for club Kasetsart in 2nd Div Thailand league. “I feel very happy to come to Davao. I feel good that I am here with this strong club. I want to give my best for Davao and qualify for the AFC. I feel very good overall.”

Julian, better known as Ian, who is fresh from college football, captained his UP Maroons side to the championship just before he graduated and scored that crucial goal to help his school lift the trophy. He added, “Sobrang blessed ako na nakapasok ako sa club na ito dahil kasi ayun, magaling yun mga kasama ko and nandito yun mga best players na nasa national team and gusto ko matuto sa experiences namin.”

Ray, the first choice keeper for FEU, also recently graduated and is now eligible to play for Davao. He is someone who is very determined to learn from his peers and coaches alike hoping he will be the number 1 choice for the position of the club in the future. “I feel a little pressure. Siempre professional level and maraming magaling na kasama kaya naprepressure ako. Sana mawala yun pressure ko kasi nagustuhan naman nila yun nakita nila sa SEA Games.”

They are just few of the many more signings this club will surely get. We will have to see which signings will be proven worthy and valuable in the upcoming games after July 15 when these boys get eligible to play for the club already.

PFL: KAYA ILOILO 0-1 CERES-NEGROS

Ceres-Negros FC produced a great performance in Iloilo to beat Kaya FC 1-0 last July 11 at the Iloilo Sports Complex. Patrick Reichelts strike and Toni Doblas’ outstanding play made the difference for the busmen.

The visitors had the best chance early in the match when Carlie De Murga attempted a shot off a corner which was saved well by Ace Villanueva.

Kaya had a good opportunity in the 7th minute when Eric Giganto latched on to a ball inside the box and tried to curl one towards the top corner but Doblas was there for the fine stop.

The busmen went ahead in the 15th minute after Takumi Uesato eluded the offside trap before he issued a ball towards Reichelt who tapped in the go ahead goal.

Ceres had the best chance to double the lead in the 28th when Reichelt layed off to Mike Ott. Tacusalme however denied Ott when he headed his chance off the line and initiated a Kaya counter that was thwarted by Junior Muñoz.

Kaya went down to ten men when Robert Lopez-Mendy pushed Amani Aguinaldo from behind to earn his second yellow and a sending off in the 34th minute.

The home squad had a chance minutes later after twenty-yard shot from Mike Menzi but it was saved by the keeper. Reichelt had a golden chance for a brace before the break but his solo effort went straight to Villanueva.

Iloilo threatened from the start of the second half even if they were a man less. Jovin Bedic shook off some defenders before blasting a shot that went over the bar.

Ceres wrested control later on when Porteria stole the ball from a defender to try his luck from the edge of the box. Villanueva however denies the winger of his chance. The Kaya keeper was at it again when he blocked a solo effort from Muñoz in the 70th minute.

Substitute Bienvenido Marañon tried to redirect a cross into goal but Villanueva did well to block the effort. He would have another chance minutes later but his attempt off a deflected ball was a foot wide of the open goal.

Kaya FC had the best chance to equalize in injury time but Jayson Panhay’s well placed shot was tipped away by Doblas. Ceres held on for the win and break Iloilo’s unbeaten streak at home.

Man of the match Toni Doblas was all praises for his team for playing well under tough conditions against in Iloilo.

“It’s always difficult against Kaya  because they are a good team and they have plenty of motivation. Today the weather was bad, the pitch was very difficult, but I’m very very proud of my team because we played smart. No easy game for us but we are very happy,” said the veteran keeper.

Ceres Coach Risto Vidakovic was happy with the win despite the extra physical displays shown by the home side in the last couple of games.

“As always, we are trying to play football and I think we beat them with good football. It was a very fair game,” said Vidakovic. “We are now one step closer to the title, maybe we can now focus on the AFC Cup.

Ceres-Negros are now nine points away from the league title with six games left in the league season. They will now travel to Davao Thursday morning for their final away match in Tagum City.

PFL PREVIEW: KAYA ILOILO V CERES-NEGROS

Ceres-Negros meets Kaya Iloilo for the fifth and final time this league season on July 11 at the Iloilo Sports Complex in the heart of Iloilo City.

The two rivals have played to two consecutive 1-1 draws in historic venue with the third match tipped to break the tie in the books.

The script for both matches were the same as late goals were matched with late equalizers from both squads. Ceres scored first in the initial match with a Mike Ott tap-in but Noy Felongco came home with a surprise equalizer just moments later.

Robert Lopez-Mendy took advantage of a counter to score in the second match only to find his effort cancelled out by a breath-taking free kick by Kevin Ingreso towards the top corner.

Ceres-Negros still have a virtual six point gap over Kaya which the busmen aim to increase their lead in their quest for their second consecutive league title.

“We want to win,” said Ceres Coach Risto Vidakovic when asked about his objective for the coming match. “It’s always a tough game against Kaya and it will be the same tomorrow. They will fight, they still have options to win the league, and they will try their best.” he added.

“We have to be prepared tomorrow we have to fight. For us its very important to win tomorrow because if we win, I think we can already be focused on the AFC Cup,” said the veteran coach.

Super Herrera will be suspended while Stephan Schrock is questionable after he was subbed out of after getting a reckless challenge late in the match. Kaya’s Felongco is also suspended while Camelo Tacusalme may be bothered by a hamstring injury.

The match has been reset to a 3pm kickoff as inclement weather may force 30-min rain delays during the match. Tickets are available at the stadium for the local fans while the game will be broadcast live via PFLtv.ph.

AFF Women’s: Indonesia 3-3 Philippines

The Philippine Women’s National Team ended their AFF Women’s Championship campaign on a positive note after a late 3-3 draw against Indonesia at the Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium in Palembang, Indonesia.

The Philippines were already two goals up thanks to Kyla Inquig (9’) and Joyce Semacio (14’). However Indonesia fought back in the second half to lead the match, 3-2.

In the dying minutes, Quinley Quezada netted the equalizer in the 5th minute of stoppage time to give the Philippines the draw.

The Philippines, managed by Jefferson Cheng and coached by Buda Bautista, finished the group stage in 3rd place with 1 win, 1 draw, and 2 losses.

“The Philippine Women’s Team put up a good fight in their AFF Women’s Championship run,” said PFF general secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes. “Their performance in this tournament bodes well for the team in preparation for the upcoming Olympic Qualifiers later this year and the 30th South East Asian Games next year.”
