Pasargad holds tryout today

CEBUANO booters may have a chance to play in this year’s United Football League (UFL) Division 1 season as the Pasargad Football Club will be holding a tryout today from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
Pasargad FC owner Esmaeil Sedigh said the tryout is open to everyone. Pasargad FC is the first UFL Division 1 team which has decided to hold tryouts here.
“I know that Cebu had a very good grassroots program five years ago and this is the reason why we decided to hold tryouts here,” Sedigh said.
According to Sedigh, they are also negotiating with Eleazar Toledo, head coach of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, to join them as one of the club’s coaches. Sedigh said he has some Cebuano players comprising his futsal teams.
Sedigh said that one other reason he decided to hold tryouts here is because he was impressed with the youth team that they adopted for the UFL Youth League last summer.
The Pasargad FC U-17 was comprised mostly of the former members of the Little Azkals or the Philippine U-14 and Cebuano booters.
Sedigh said that after Cebu, they will also be holding tryouts in Mindanao. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON

Fiery Mbata double help sustain PSG resurgence

By Karlo Sacamos

PSG is slowly proving how potent the team is offensively, beating Philippine Army, 4-0, to revive its bid for a spot in the upper half of the Division 1 standings of the United Football League on Tuesday night at the Emperador Stadium.
Emmanuel Mbata registered a brace, while Jaham Taher and Younousse Yaogo chipped in a goal apiece for PSG, which solidified its hold of seventh spot with eight points in eight games.
Stuck at the bottom in the early part of the season, the Iranian-flavored squad is now within striking distance of fifth place after winning twice in three games with a draw in between.
The Troopers absorbed a sixth setback in eight games and remained in ninth place with four points.
“It was an important win. Hopefully with another win, we could be in fifth place,” PSG coach Esse Sedigh said.
PSG banked on a strong first half against the Troopers, with Taher finding the back of the net first 18 minutes into the game. Mbata doubled the lead 11 minutes later, before Yaogo sneaked another goal just before halftime.
Mbata completed his two-goal effort with another successful conversion nine minutes before the second-half stoppage time.
“If you take a look at our previous games, we control the game with ball possession. The only thing that was missing was finishing,” Sedigh explained. “You can see lately, it’s okay already.”

Kaya seeks to sustain rise in UFL standings

By Karlo Sacamos

REJUVENATED Kaya side hopes to continue its rise in the standings as it takes on PSG Thursday night in the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium in Tagiug.

Coming off a win that moved them on the other half of the rankings, the 2012 League runners-up face the squad formerly known as Pasargad at 7:30 p.m. in the last playing day of the league before the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup and the Holy Week break.

A win for Kaya will propel the squad to at least a tie for fourth place with Nomads with 11 points each. The team is coming off a 3-0 blanking of Philippine Army last week, giving new coach David Perkovic a successful debut.

Kaya, however, is expected to be without national team standouts OJ Porteria and Chris Greatwich and will be facing another revitalized team in PSG, which is fresh from booking its first win in six games last Saturday behind a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Green Archers United.

Philippine Air Force seeks to finally barge in the win column when it faces Pachanga-Diliman earlier at 5:15 p.m.

The Airmen, who lost to fellow Armed Forces squad Army, 3-0, in their last game, are the only winless team in the league after six outings, while Pachanga, the 2012 Division 2 champion, is in sixth place with six points in six games.

UFL letting PSG handle case of player arrested on drug-pushing suspicion

By Karlo Sacamos

THE United Football League is letting PSG FC handle the case of booter Gerald Orcullo, who according to reports was arrested, along with two others, on Thursday for alleged drug pushing, although an official said the league's independent disciplinary committee may also look into the incident.

According to online reports on Saturday, the 30-year-old Orcullo, who also acts as a coach for University of the East, was nabbed, along with two others, in an undercover buy-bust operation in Sampaloc, Manila.

The story, which referenced the police report of Manila Police District (MPD) Station 4 chief superintendent James Afalla, also stated that “undetermined amount of marijuana leaves were seized from the suspects.”

The suspects are detained at MPD Station 4 in Sampaloc, the same precint where Far Eastern University American center Anthony Hargrove and reserve Adam Mohammed were held for three days until Friday night, also on a drug possession case.

UFL technical director Ritchie Gannaban told Spin.ph that the league will leave it to its independent disciplinary committee if its wants to look into the case.

“For now, it’s really the club who has to discipline the player. But for a serious offense like this, the disciplinary committee can also look into it,” Gannaban said during halftime of the Division 1 game between Nomads and Pachanga-Diliman on Saturday night.

Gannaban added the UFL has no specific rules on doping control yet, but is hoping the league would seriously consider setting them.

“It’s unfortunate, but as a community, it’s (drug case) just a minority. As far as the UFL is concerned, in fact, even international matches here in the Philippines, wala rin tayong doping control eh. But I think that is something that we should look into, that we should apply in the future.”

“But for now, we really don’t have the facilities yet. But it is something the UFL should look into, especially with the influx of foreign players and other players, hindi mawawala yan eh.”

“There is always that stigma of drugs in sports,” added Gannaban.

Slow-starting PSG out to finally make mark in UFL

By Karlo Sacamos

PSG FC hopes to finally translate its National Football Championship success to the United Football League as it takes on Pachanga-Diliman FC on Saturday night at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.

After reaching the finals of the national tournament last month, the Iranian-laden squad has so far been unable to live up to expectations in the UFL as it remains winless in two games.

But the squad formerly known as Pasargard, hopes to turn things around this time in the lone Division 1 match at 8 p.m. against newly promoted opponents.

Midfielder Hamed Hajimehdi continues to skipper the squad, which is also expected to lean on Filipino-Belgian right-back Angelo Marasigan and flashy goalkeeper Reza Ataei.

Pachanga, bannered by Gumanian national team captain Jason Cunliffe and midfielder Anton Gonzales, is looking to bounce back from its 1-0 loss to Loyola Meralco last week.

A pair of Division 2 games are also in store on Saturday with Dolphins United gunning for a share of the lead when it collides with Agila at 6 p.m. shortly after Union Internacional Manila faces Cebu Queen City United two hours earlier.

PSG FC gearing up for the Finals of SMART Cup severely undermanned

Press release from PSG Fc (Pasargad FC )

28 January 2013, Manila, PHI

“The situation we are in is something we have never encountered before”. These were the words that came from the mouth of Coach Esse Sedigh after PSG FC’s exciting victory in penalties against Green Archers United Globe (GAU) in the penultimate semifinal match-up in the PFF Smart National Club Championships with a scoreline of 4-3 (2-1 in penalties) last January 26, Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium. With the win, PSG FC sets up the final duel with non-league side Ceres Negros FC whose cinderella run in the tournament was capped with a 3-1 victory over Kaya FC. Reason for this rather not-so-ecstatic statement coming off a victory is the likelihood of PSG FC missing the services of its stalwart goal keeper, Reza Ataie and lead defender Jaham Taher – vital cogs in the squads starting 11 on account of red cards due to premature celebration which marred the otherwise well played match vs GAU.

The match ended with 2 goals apiece after extra time and entered into penalties. Chieffy Caligdong, GAU’s new sign-up, drew first blood for the Archers. This was followed by PSGs Hamed Hajimedi who scored via the top left. GAU’s next kicker, Tating Pasilan’s kick was caught by Reza but the referee ordered a re-take claiming Reza moved forward ahead of the kick. Pasilan’s next kick hit the post giving PSG the golden opportunity of upping the pressure. Francis Sumudivilla, PSGs newest addition from San Beda College nailed the leading goal top corner putting PSG up 2-1 on penalties. GAU’s Elle Cagayanan flubbed his penalty kicking it too close for Reza to claim. Following this, Mark Anthony Fernandez failed to pad the lead as his shot was fully covered by GAU keeper Martin Villaflor. With the scoreline still pegged at 2-1, it was GAUs Tommy Escoltero’s turn to draw. His kick however, was knocked out by Reza. The excitement elicited an ecstatic response from the bench leading to Taher (who was in the pitch at the time) and Reza to take off their jerseys thinking the match was over.   Those actions however, required everyone to pore over the rule book. And with the referee reviewing the sequence of events, both Reza and Taher were meted out Yellow Cards for the infraction – their second for this particular match. Both had to be escorted out since the PK’s had yet to be finished. A lapse of around ten minutes took place before action was resumed with CD Harris for PSG on the line. Harris’ shot was saved by the GAU keeper giving the Archers one last chance. With Ayi Nii Aryee of GAU coming next, the diminutive Sumudivilla took the GK chores wearing nothing but an apron and without gloves. Fortunately for PSG, Ayi’s shot hit the cross bar this time making it very sure of PSG’s win and entry into the finals.

“It was a bitter sweet victory” says team manager Javy Mantecon. Mantecon adds “We are in the top two now and a lot of that was due to Reza’s excellent goal keeping and Taher’s defence. Not to mention Manuel M’bata’s threats on the frontline.” M’Bata was earlier booked a red card for simulation. Clearly on review, M’Bata was nudged by a GAU defender Dominic Mensah upon receipt of the pass from Angelo Marasigan. Despite pleas, the referee judged it a simulation thus the red card. “Hopefully, we can firm up an appeal with the organizing committee so that we can have some if not all our carded players in the pitch for the finals. We have a chance to have the cards rescinded so we will see this week” says the affable club manager. Our string of bad luck started when the light coloured jerseys of the squad were stolen from the dug-out while they were stretching. “It is a shame something like this can happen in such a high profile match. Rizal should always provide top notch security. Imagine if this happens in the Olympics?!”

Despite the setback, the team will continue on with preparing for the finals match versus Ceres this Saturday, 02 February, also at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium. “All our players will report for practice and we will treat this just as we treat any match” says coach Esse. “You can already see that our players are in top form. Orcullo, Francis (Sumudivilla), sila Mark and Paul (Concepcion) atsaka sila Jolomi, Younnouis, Manuel, Nelson, Charles, CD, lahat sila fit and ready for anyone” adds coach Esse. “Pero mas maganda kung kumpleto yung team sa Saturday. Alam naman natin na malakas yung Ceres Negros. Madaming magaling mag-football sa Negros so kailang ready ka talaga” says Esse.   The club would like to invite their fans – Barangay PSG this Saturday for what promises to be an exciting wind-up to the SMART National Club Championships.

Pasargad builds local talent base with two with two filipino signings before UFL season

by Karl Decana

In an effort to have more local players in its roster, United Football League team Pasargad FC has signed two Filipino players to boost its campaign in the upcoming League competition.

Pasargad, which is composed mostly of players from Iran, has acquired Filipino-Belgian Angelo Verheye Marasigan and Filipino-American CD Harris ahead of the UFL season.

“Angelo will form a vital cog in our defensive line,” Pasargad co-owner Javier Montecon said. “Angelo’s addition is likewise crucial as we increase our base of local Filipino talent in the roster.”

Marasigan, who plays as a defender or midfielder, had stints in the Belgian Pro League when he was a teenager. He also played for the Philippine national Under-21 men’s football team last year.

Meanwhile, Harris, a forward, played for the Panama City Pirates, a Florida-based squad in the Premier Development League of the United Soccer League.

“CD has had substantial experience in the US Pro League as well as in South American competition,” Montecon said.

Montecon said that the team’s new additions is only the first step for Pasargad to discover more talented Filipino players in the future.

“We are seriously studying other football players outside of Metro Manila and will continue to mix this with scouting for Filipino talent outside the country,” he said. “This augurs well for the club in that we will now be able to generate a broader fan base now that we have more Filipino football talent in the squad.”

Before the UFL Cup, Pasargad also signed highly-touted Filipino-American Josh Boone, as well as local goalkeeper Kenneth Delloso.

Led by Iranian striker Masood Shahideh, Pasargad finished sixth in the League competition last year, while it failed to qualify in the knockout stages of the Cup this season.
