Pachanga kicks off UFL league play with win over Socceroo

  • From:
  • PACHANGA-Diliman picked up from where it left off in the United Football League Cup as it kicked off its League campaign with a 2-0 victory over Division 1 rookie Socceroo on Saturday at the Emperador Stadium in Mcknley Hill.
Riding high on its impressive runner-up finish in the Cup last month, Pachanga started its league play on a bright note with a shutout win over the reigning Division 2 champion.
Nate Burkey scored both goals for Pachanga, which gained the early lead in the nine-team standings with three points.
“Mataas yung morale ng players,” said Pachanga coach Noel Marcaida, whose team finished fifth in its maiden top-flight bid last year. “Made-determine namin kung hanggang saan kami sa league kung paano kami nag-perform sa first game.”
The high-altitude training in Benguet State University in La Trinidad, Baguio from January 3 to 6 prepared Pachanga in its opening-day matchup where it dominated possession and showed newly promoted Socceroo what Division 1 ball is all about.
    “Malaking tulong siya,” Marcaida said.
Burkey, a Filipino-American striker and former Azkal, opened the scoring 33 minutes into the game when he caught a pass from the midfield before beating Socceroo goalkeeper Gui Hasegawa to slot home the goal.
Burkey doubled the lead in the 67th minute with a penalty conversion, a development after Hasegawa fouled Jay Eusebio inside the box.

Comebacking striker delivers for Pachanga

Karlo Sacamos

OSSEYNOU Diop made a rousing return from injury to lift Pachanga-Diliman to a 3-2 victory over PSG on Saturday night in the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
In his first game back after being sidelined for almost a month due to a groin injury, the 19-year-old Senegalese striker fired a brace early in the first half that proved enough to weather a PSG fightback in the untelevised match.
With the win, the 2012 Division 2 champions continued to impress under the radar in their maiden top flight campaign as they moved past Kaya for solo fourth place.
“Ngayon nakuha na namin ang solo fourth, ang kailangan na lang namin gawin ngayon is to maintain,” Pachanga coach Noel Marcaida said. “Kung ano yung mga game ng Kaya na na-draw, kailangan namin kunin (at panalunin) yung mga game namin.”
“Hindi naman sa amin ganun ka-importante na televised yung games,” the rookie mentor added of his team’s situation. “Ang imporante is kung ano ang magiging result ng game. Sana magbago rin siya, but the priority is to win the games.”
Diop, who missed Pachanga’s last four games, seemed to hardly skip a beat as he went to work early and converted two successful attempts within the first 23 minutes of the game.
An own goal from PSG tripled the lead for Pachanga, before the former attempted a rally, starting with a goal four minutes before first-half stoppage time from returning top striker Emmanuel Mbata.
But Pachanga’s cushion proved too big to overcome as Promise Jolomi’s 90th-minute goal for PSG was insufficient.
PSG suffered its third straight loss and remained in seventh place with 11 markers.
“I just tried. It was not easy because they played very good,” Diop said. “They let me (have) the opportunity but after that they closed the defense. That’s why we turned to defending. We were lucky to win that game.”

New-boy Jamali strikes yet again for Pachanga

By Karlo Sacamos

He came in near the halfway mark of the season, but Alireza Jamali’s arrival was right on cue for Pachanga-Diliman.
The Iranian striker scored for the second time in three games so far for the 2012 Division 2 titlists, leading Pachanga to a 2-0 victory over Green Archers United on Saturday night in the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
OJ Clariño fired the other second-half goal for Pachanga, which continued to make its mark in its maiden Division 1 campaign by moving back to the top half of the 10-team standings in fifth place, displacing Nomads.
Sought from Iran to provide the offensive punch the squad lacked in its previous games, Jamali delivered anew as he drew first blood seven minutes into the second half by capitalizing on a goal left empty after a desperate challenge from Archers ‘keeper Patrick Deyto.
“We really need players on top who can handle the ball. And given the short time, kaya na niya agad mag-adjust sa kanyang teammates so yun yung maganda,” Pachanga coach Noel Marcaida said of the 23-year-old Jamali, a former Pasargad player who was once a member of the Iran national team.
“Magandang timing yung pagdating niya.”
Clariño added the insurance goal right before stoppage time off a cross from Boyet Cañedo.
The Archers, who missed skipper Tating Pasilan due to fever, absorbed their sixth loss in eight games to remain in eighth place with four points.
Without Pasilan, the Archers still conjured chances but Jesus Melliza, Chieffy Caligdong, and Jovanie Simpron were unable to convert.
“Yung plano nag-materialize. We give the credit to the players, tinrabaho talaga nila,” Marcaida said.
In Division 2 action, Agila nipped Philippine Navy, 1-0, to move just three points behind leader Socceroo (18 points) in the standings.
The Sailors remained at the bottom of the field with only five points to show.

Lopez to play pro soccer in Philippines for PachangaDiliman FC

Harmon, Guam- Marcus Lopez joins the growing group of members of the Matao, Guam men’s national football team, playing at the professional level after recently accepting to play with Pachanga Diliman FC, a Division I team in the Philippines’ United Football League.

Lopez, a forward with the Matao, departed to the Philippines Tuesday evening.

“Playing at the professional level has been a dream for me all my life,” Lopez said before departing to Manila Tuesday. “I’m very grateful for this opportunity and I look to capitalize on this and every future opportunity that comes my way. Right now, Pachanga Diliman FC is in the middle of the pack and I’m hoping that alongside my Matao teammates Ian Mariano and captain Jason Cunliffe, as well as my new teammates, I can help bring the team to the top.

“Although the UFL is a fairly new professional football league, it is growing rapidly and has a bright future. I’m excited to be playing in the Philippines – it is a great way for me to get game experience while playing at a high level,” the 21-year-old added.

Lopez is the latest member of the Matao signed to play at the professional level and the fourth to play in the UFL in the Philippines. Matao fullback and midfielder Jonahan Romero currently is in his second season with Kaya FC, another Division I team in the UFL. Cunliffe joined Pachanga Diliman FC in late 2012 and Mariano signed with the professional team earlier this year.

“I am very happy for Marcus,” said Matao head coach Gary White. “Gaining high-level game experience is just what he needs at this moment in his development as a player. The maturity and professional level experience he will gain will help solidify his place in the Matao and also contribute to Guam’s continuing international football success.”

Lopez started playing football when he was four years old with the Wings FC in the Robbie Webber Youth Soccer League, following his brother Joey Lopez, Jr. and immediately fell in love with the sport, he said.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank Jesus because without the Lord and faith in my life to guide me through my journey, none of this would be possible,” Marcus Lopez said. “Secondly, I would like to thank my dad, Joey Lopez, Sr. and my mom Marie Lopez for supporting me throughout my whole career and providing anything I needed to help me succeed in football. Also, I would like to thank my brothers Joey Jr., Micah and Dominic for always supporting me mentally with advice and training me physically, even if it inconvenienced them. I would like to also thank Kun Ho Rhee for spending two to three hours at a time with me for five to six days a week focusing on training technique and repetition. I also would like to thank my childhood and first coach Melinda Rotcher and youth coach Jimmy Okuhama for pushing me to limits I never knew I could reach.

“Finally, I would also like to thank GFA President Richard Lai and GFA and for every opportunity that they have provided me over the years, such as traveling all over the world to play at the international level against other countries, and to the Gaffer (White) who has changed my football mentality and overall game for the better. I am humbled to be a student and player of the Gaffer and look forward to continue improving my game,” Lopez added.

Lopez most recently played against Chinese Taipei in the AFC Challenge Cup Group A qualifier in Yangon, Myanmar, helping the team demolish its opponent 3-0.

Pachanga-Diliman fights back in win over PSG FC

By Karlo Sacamos

PACHANGA-Diliman FC battled back from an early deficit to score a 2-1 victory over PSG FC on Saturday night in the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
Andoni Santos and Ousseynou Diop emerged as the goal scorers for the 2012 Division 2 champions, who continued to make an impression in their maiden campaign in top flight with their second win against a single loss.
PSG's lead courtesy of a Jaham Taher penalty strike conversion in the 35th minute was short lived as Santos retaliated with a neat looping equalizing shot that went past goalkeeper Reza Ataei just three minutes later.
Diop gave Pachanga the lead for good after he scored on the rebound from a penalty miss in the 68th minute.
“Come from behind `yung panalo. Halata na mas gusto namin sa kanila, mas may drive kami,” Santos said. "Syempre galing kami sa second division, so gusto namin sulitin `yung experience dito."
"Matagal na rin ako hindi naka-score so masarap yung feeling. Hard work lang. Yun lang yung style namin," added the 26-year-old Santos, an Ateneo law student by day.
PSG suffered not only its third straight loss but also a casualty to its star goalkeeper.
Ataei, who has been criticized for his `diving’ antics, suffered a real injury this time when was stretchered off the pitch late in the second half after pulling his left hamstring.

Pachanga Diliman stuns Kaya Fc in UFL Div 1 debut

Karl Decena, InterAKTV

Newly-promoted Pachanga Diliman FC stunned last season’s runner-up Kaya FC, 1-0, to emerge victorious in its Division One Debut in the United Football League Thursday night at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

Guamanian import Jason Cunliffe sank a penalty kick at the 29th minute to give Pachanga its lone goal of the match, which Kaya couldn’t recover from.

Veteran midfielder Anto Gonzales also made his presence felt in his return to Pachanga after a one-year loan to the Loyola Meralco Sparks, anchoring his team’s attacks which led to multiple chances at the goal.

Kaya had the chance to score the equalizer in injury time, with second half sub Antonio Ugarte setting up a free kick from the right flank. However, shots by Kaya failed to hit the back of the net.

With the victory, Pachanga gained three points to tie the Sparks, Global FC, Stallion Sta.Lucia for the early lead in the League table.

Pachanga ends CQCU’s bid

Saturday, January 12, 2013
UNNECESSARY fouls exacted a high cost for Cebu Queen City United
as these ended their bid to advance in the PFF-Smart National Club
Championship after they lost to Pachanga FC, 3-1, yesterday at
the Aboitiz Sports Field.
CQCU boys failed to put a stop to their losing curse over the
visiting team as they suffered their fourth straight loss.
What makes it harder to swallow is that this time, it is in a home game.
"We are happy to beat Cebu in Cebu. We have really prepared
against them as they have become known to play a quick game
and we were able to spot the people we have to defend well,"
said Pachanga head coach Bob Salvacion.
Although CQCU initiated the fast running match in the early
minutes of the game, it was Pachanga that drew first
blood with Joven Bedic's header in the 38th minute giving
 them the upper hand, 1-0.
But CQCU's Samson Olaniyi countered an equalizer within
the one-minute extension from Junard Aguilar's knee-high
cross to end the first half in a 1-1 deadlock.
The twist happened in the second half, where Pachanga
capitalized on the unnecessary fouls of CQCU in the danger area.
Two fouls committed by CQCU's Miguel Gonzales were the
nails that sealed the coffin for the Cebu team as these were converted by Pachanga.
The first foul happened within the box in the 67th minute with
Pachanga’s Jason Conliffe providing the 2-1 relief for the team.
The second foul was a tackle in the penalty box and it was
Mario Javier Clarino who scored and padded the lead, 3-1.
Although Salvacion was very impressed with the performance
of CQCU, he said that the team has still more to improve on.
Pachanga will move on to the quarterfinals and will face the
winner between Mindanao-based Romgarjal FC and the Green Archers.
Even if CQCU head coach Mario Ceniza stands with his
team on a losing note, he is contented with the performance of his players.
"I am not dissatisfied. Minus the turnover and other errors
, we have showed them that we played a good match," Ceniza said.
Ceniza again traces the weakness of the team to the lack of
exposure to friendly games against other strong clubs in the country.
Unlike Pachanga whose friendly games with other United Football
League team based in Manila can be conveniently scheduled anytime,
CQCU has to settle for games available in the city.
The team will only have a short vacation as they prepare once
again for the UFL League Division 2, which opens this February
, where they hope to improve on their third place finish last time.

Azkals member Anto Gonzales to join Pachanga for upcoming season

Karl Decena, InterAKTV

As the saying goes, “One’s loss is another’s gain.”

After signing former Pachanga star Freddy Gonzalez, the Loyola Meralco Sparks has released veteran midfielder Anto Gonzales, who will play for Pachanga in the upcoming United Football League season.
“Freddy is a welcome addition but we are also sad to lose Anto Gonzales who will be moving to Pachanga,” Sparks president Randy Roxas told InterAKTV. “He was on loan to us from Diliman. Agreement was that he would move back to Diliman if they made it to the first division.”
Roxas said that the loan of Gonzales only lasted as soon as his original squad, Diliman Victory Liner FC, advances to Division One. The newly-promoted Pachanga, which Gonzalez used to own, was sold to Diliman just before the Cup started last year.
That move led most Diliman players to suit up for Pachanga during its quarterfinal run in the Cup last year.
Also a member of the national team, Gonzales has been a vital part of Loyola since last season, providing a steady presence in the midfield which helped the Sparks attack anchored by star striker Phil Younghusband.
With his move to Pachanga, Gonzales will reunite with some of his former players in the University of the Philippines men’s football team, which he also coaches.

Ex-Pachanga FC head coach saddenedby club’s dissolution

Former Pachanga FC Red Phoenix head coach Norman Fegidero Jr. expressed disappointment over the sudden dissolution of the club following its promotion to Division 1 after emerging as Division 2 champion in the recent United Football League season.
Fegidero, who led the Red Phoenix in a successful campaign last season, stressed in an interview with Bleachers Brew that the team had a terrible climb in their desire to be in the Division 1 only to realize that it’s already gone.
“We would have wanted to see how we really match up with the best club teams, to see what adjustments we can make, and how good our team is. But Fred said that the reason is his family, and we’ve nothing to talk about. I understand why it has to happen,” Fegidero added.
Although people associated with the club understand the sale, it has left the coaching staff and players upset for many reasons. Of the coaching staff composed of Fegidero Jr., Marjo Allado, Alvin Ocampo, and Kim Versales, only Allado was reportedly offered a slot in the new team’s coaching staff.
But according to Fegidero and former team manager Jojo Rodriguez, Allado will decline the offer. The club added that Hector Zaghi from Team Socceroo in the offseason will shore up the midfield that was missing the injured William Guerridon. Zaghi is disgusted with the sudden dissolution of the club and refuses to play for Pachanga anymore.
The Bacolod contingent made up primarily of Fegidero’s players from West Negros University being led by striker Joven Bedic and defender Camelo Tacusalme are out as well.
Meanwhile, former Red Phoenix owner Freddy Gonzales explained that there is no truth to the rumor that the team is bankrupt. He said that it is more of a family decision to sell the club.
“I have been too busy with work and during the past two months, I have been in and out of the country on business. In fact, this is the reason why I couldn’t commit to the Azkals’ training camp or the Clear Dream Match even if I wanted to. It has been difficult for me trying to balance my life as a businessman, a family man and a football team owner.
Even before I suited up for Pachanga during the league competition, I would only occasionally show up in the games because of my commitments. It is about priorities and unfortunately the team had to give way.
I will still play and that is so much easier than running an entire team. It was difficult to try and get sponsors for the club given that I am often times out of the country. I gave a lot to this club but I think I took it as far as I could take it.
Obviously some people will be disappointed with what happened but there is no malice intended. The best possible people to run the club will take it much farther than I could,” he said.
The Red Phoenix has been bought by a group associated with the Makati Football School and Diliman FC and will reportedly field a hybrid team composed of Pachanga and Diliman players. According to the UFL, the new club, will be named “Pachanga Diliman FC” and will introduce their new lineup soon./

Newly promoted Pachanga sold to new owners ahead of UFL div 1 debut

After dominating Division Two of the United Football League, newly-promoted Pachanga may not be the same team anymore in its first division debut.
Former Pachanga coach Norman Fegidero revealed to InterAKTV that team owner and star Freddy Gonzalez had sold the club to a group associated with another UFL squad, Diliman Victory Liner FC, which could lead to the formation of a team composed of players from both squads.
Curiously, Pachanga and Diliman were the top two teams battling for promotion in Division Two last season.
With the sale, the status of some Pachanga players, including Gonzalez, who won the Golden Ball and Golden Boot trophies for the second division last season, remains uncertain. Some UFL clubs, such as Nomads Auction Manila, have expressed their intent to invite the players for tryouts.
The UFL, meanwhile, has not yet learned anything official about the sale.
“UFL management has not been informed of any developments re Pachanga FC,” UFL general coordinator Ritchie Gannaban told InterAKTV.
Pachanga is coming off a magnificent season, steamrolling its way to the Division Two crown. Led by the return of Gonzalez, who came back to the pitch after four years in retirement, the Red Phoenix did not lose and only had one draw in 22 matches last season.

Pachanga shuts out Union Internacional Manila in UFL

By Olmin Leyba

Pachanga FC crushed Union Internacional Manila, 8-0, to fortify its grip of the second-division lead in the United Football League (UFL) Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Alfredo Gonzalez (51’, 85’) and Joshua Fegidero (78’, 89’) each scored a brace to lead Pachanga to the shutout win, its 19th against a lone draw for a leading 58 points.
The Pachanga booters, who also got goals from Robert Canedo (9’), Jovin Bedic (29’), Carmelo Tacusalme (66’) and Enrico Paolo Misa (87’), stood five points ahead of Diliman Victory Liner FC’s 53 (17-2-1).
Diliman picked up the full points in a 1-0 victory over Manila All-Japan over at the University of Makatifield, with George Twumi netting the marginal goal at the 36th minute.
Third-running Cebu Queen City United hacked out a close 3-2 verdict over Sunken Garden United to improve to 43 points.
Dan Villarico knocked in his second goal of the match in the 69th as the Cebuanos escaped with their 13th triumph against four draws and three defeats.
Villarico, a former Phl youth mainstay, opened scoring for Cebu with a strike in the 17th that Sunken eventually matched via Isan Akut’s connection in the 20th. Albert Nagkul scored in the 31st to give Cebu a 3-1 lead but Sunken’s Kevin John Sernicula booted in the equalizer nine minutes later.
Laos FC also emerged victorious via a 5-1 drubbing of Lions Meltique, with Rolly Lear making two goals (57’, 86’). The Laos booters improved to 7-3-10 and 24 points for joint sixth.

Hot Pachanga routs Manila All-Japan IX

By

NEWCOMER Pachanga breached the century mark in total goals for the season after a 7-0 demolition of Manila All-Japan Saturday night in the second division of the United Football League at the University of Makati field.
Midfielder Oussenynou Diop fired a hat-trick, while former national team striker Freddie Gonzalez contributed two as Pachanga extended its lead against Diliman FC at the top to five points with four matches remaining.
The 34-year-old Gonzalez, the star of the national team in the early 2000s who recently earned an invitation to return to the Azkals after showing fine form in the UFL, took his tally to 29 goals for the season.
Clinically finishing off fluid attacking moves, striker Joven Bedic and Robert Canedo also scored for Pachanga, which has collected 52 out of a possible 54 points in its 18 matches.
Only in its first season in the UFL, Pachanga, a team also owned by Gonzalez, has racked up an astonishing total of 106 goals on its way to winning 17 matches and drawing one. Pachanga has only conceded seven goals.
“We’re scoring goals and hopefully it leads us to our target of winning the second division and get promotion to the first division next season,” said Pachanga coach Norman Fegidero, whose side reached the UFL Cup quarterfinals early this year.
In another second division clash, last-placed Lions Meltique Beef banged in two second half goals to salvage a 2-2 draw against Union Internacionale Manila.
