Palestine 4-0 Philippines
The Philippine Men’s National Team’s chances of qualifying for the AFC Asian Cup 2023 were dashed following a 4-0 loss to Palestine, Tuesday 14 June 2022 at the MFF Stadium in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
The result saw the Philippines finish their qualifying campaign in second place with four points.
The Azkals’ qualification to the Asian Cup, however remains in the balance depending on the results of the other groups where five group runners up, along with the group winners will advance to the final round to be played next year.
Goals from Saleh Chihadeh (31’), Tamer Seyam (42’), Mohammed Yamin (55’), and Abu Warda (72’) allowed Palestine to finish as Group A winners.
Gerrit Holtman, who scored the match winner against Mongolia last Saturday, had a chance to reduce the deficit in the first half, but his effort was saved.
Simone Rota, also went close in the hour mark with a header from Holtmann’s free kick, but sent it wide.

Azkals aim for Asian Cup 2023 ticket in crucial Palestine clash

MANILA, Philippines – After snatching a last-minute win over Mongolia last Saturday, June 11, the Philippine Azkals now hold their own fate in qualifying for the AFC Asian Cup 2023 as they battle Palestine on Tuesday at the MFF Stadium in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
World No. 133 Azkals have 4 points and a +1 goal difference after two matches, while 100th-ranked Palestine holds the top spot in Group B with 6 points and a +6 goal difference.
“I am pleased with everything we’ve had so far. We are in the game that everybody dreams of, you don’t want to play just the friendly games, you want to play games where it counts and this is one of the teams that counts,” said Philippines head coach Thomas Dooley.
“We have to give everything, we have to be lucky a little bit and we have to trust in each other and I think that’s what we do.”
A victory for the Azkals will catapult them to the top of Group B and secure them a slot in next year’s Asian Cup.
Producing another draw will keep the Azkals in second place with 5 points, but they will have to rely on the other group runners-up to advance in the 18th edition of the quadrennial tournament.
Absorbing a first loss in the qualifiers will make things more complicated for the Azkals as they will be stuck with 4 points and give Yemen a chance to overtake them in Group B.
Despite admitting that Palestine is a much stronger side, Dooley said that he had absolute faith in his squad.
“I am confident with the players. The team that we have, they are all very energetic and they are in a good mood, they want to win, they want to take that fight on and we want to play football too, but we have to be careful in a way how we’re gonna handle this team,” Dooley said.
Dooley added that he gives the players the belief by telling them what they have achieved in the last two games and what they can do if they work together.
“We go in with our head high and we know what we have done in that short time. We have it in our hands, we just have to fight like crazy to get this victory.”
He also asked for the players to focus as they take on Palestine with a slot in the Asian Cup at stake once again.
“You need to be aware of every situation of the game and it’s only 90 minutes. I’m telling them sometimes only 45 minutes. You’ll need to concentrate for only 45 minutes. In those 45 minutes, do whatever you can, whatever you have, whatever you’re capable of into those 45 minutes. If you can’t do it anymore, we sub.”
Palestine defeated the Azkals in the final of the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup to claim a ticket in the 2015 Asian Cup, but the latest edition of the squad – a mixture of veteran players and youngsters – has the golden opportunity to finally eradicate the ghosts of the past and carve out a new piece of history. – Rappler.com

Mongolia 0-1 Philippines
Gerrit Holtmann made it a debut to savor. The forward scored the winner in the 93rd minute to lift the Philippines to a 1-0 win over Mongolia in the AFC Asian Cup 2023 qualifiers last Saturday, 11 June 2022 at the MFF Stadium in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Holtmann, who only joined the team last Thursday, rifled the match winner with a low shot from the edge of the box to hand the Philippines the three points against Mongolia with only one match left in Group B.
Coach Thomas Dooley fielded a retooled lineup with Holtmann pairing up with Bienvenido Marañon up front while Patrick Reichelt manned the wings.
The Azkals dominated in possession, but was unable to find the breakthrough in the first half with Manny Ott’s free kick as the only chance of the half.
Ott was called in defense in the second half as the midfielder denied Mongolia the lead with a clearance off the line.
The Philippines almost took the lead in the 77th minute after Reichelt was fouled. However, the winger’s effort from the spot was denied by Mongolia’s Munkh-Erdene Enkhtaivan ensuring a nervy finished between both sides.
Substitute Dylan De Bruycker almost struck home the winner in the 91st minute but was denied by again by Enkhtaivan.
In the 93rd minute, Holtmann finally struck gold to put the Philippines a step closer to Asian Cup qualification.
The Azkals face Palestine in the final Group B match on Tuesday, 14 June 2022.

Philippines 0-0 Yemen
The Philippine Men’s National Team settled for a scoreless draw against Yemen in their opening match in the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers Wednesday at the MFF Stadium in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Despite dominating the match in terms of possession, the Azkals were unable to find the breakthrough. Chances from Oliver Bias, Kenshiro Daniels, and Bienvenido Marañon came close for the Philippines.
Yemen also were dangerous on the counter, and almost won it late in the match if not for goalkeeper Neil Etheridge.
The Philippines next face Mongolia on Saturday 11 June 2022 at the same venue. Only the group winner, along with the five best second placed teams will qualify for Asia’s showpiece competition next year.

PFF U19 Second Division Kicks Off In Luzon
Following the conclusion of the First Division last Saturday 04 June 2022, the race for national supremacy now shifts in the second division as the Luzon qualifiers kicked off today 07 June 2022 in Tarlac Recreational Park in San Jose, Tarlac, Quirino Stadium in Bantay, Ilocos Sur, and Biñan Football Stadium in Biñan, Laguna.

Central Luzon FA 2-2 Olongapo City-Zambales FA
Olongapo City-Zambales FA dug deep to net a last second equalizer to deny Central Luzon the opening day win in Group A at the .
Olongapo City took the lead in the dying minutes of the first half from Juanito Jimenez, but Central Luzon’s Dann Cauyong scored twice in the second half to take a 2-1 lead. However, Cedrick Balaoning ensured that both team shared the points with a last gasp equalizer in the seventh minute of second half stoppage time.
United City FC 2-0 Palawan FA
United City FC made a good account in their debut match after a 2-0 win over Palawan FA.
Alexis Lampines first scored for United City in the 19th minute followed by San Angelo Salingay’s strike in the 69th minute to hand the club its first three points in Group A.

Pangasinan FA 0-13 Ilocos Sur FA
Uriel Gamatan and Alvin Aguimatang netted a hat-trick each as Ilocos Sur FA hammered Pangasinan FA with a 13-0 win in the lone match at the Quirino Stadium.
Gamatan fired in the 2nd, 17th, and 28th minutes while Aguimatang scored in the 64th, 80th, and 89th minutes. Jerro Piano (36’, 42’), John Abaya (40’), Mark Urbano (47’), Kenjee Valdez (61’), Paul Arcena (75’), and Jesther Garcia (90+3’) added gloss to the scoreline.
Group C
Cavite FA 0-3 Stallion Laguna FC
Stallion Laguna banked on a comprehensive performance to defeat Cavite FA, 3-0, at the Biñan Football Stadium.
Sam Taylor (23’), Sebastian Lizares (44’), and Jared Peña (55’) all found the back of the net for Stallion, to lead Group C.
FA of Rizal 2-2 Quezon-Batangas RFA
FA of Rizal and Quezon Batangas RFA set up a nervy finish as both teams shared the points in the second match in Biñan.
John Castillo gave Quezon-Batangas the early lead in the 10th minute, but FAR’s Justin Dorado drew level in the 52nd minute. Quezon-Batangas looked to have claimed the win as Cris Evangelista scored in the 90th minute, but Benjie Mahusay equalized for FAR in the dying minutes of the match to end things at 2-2.

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL CROWNED PFF U19 BOYS NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
Kyle Alipoon’s extra-time winner seals Negros Occidental FA’s fate as the best Under-19 team in the Philippines at the conclusion of the PFF U19 Boys National Championship – First Division.
Negros Occidental FA cemented their place as the kings of the PFF Under-19 Boys National Championship – First Division after a thrilling 1-0 extra-time win over National Capital Region FA last Saturday 04 June 2022 at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
Late substitute Kyle Alipoon delivered the winning goal in the 118th minute in the championship match that went into extra-time after a scoreless 90 minutes.
Both teams rued their chances for the whole of 90 minutes, unable to break the deadlock with NOFA target man Rohderick Rodriguez and NCRFA forward John Jalique left frustrated as their chances went away.
As penalty shootout loomed late in the match, Alipoon delivered the strike that sent the crowd in pandemonium. A long ball by Chris Valderama towards the NCRFA box forced goalkeeper Jan Diola to move out of his line for the clearance, but his effort sent it straight to Alipoon, who rifled a right-footed shot to the top corner and into the goal.
In the Battle for Third match, Iloilo FA came away as the third best team of the First Division following a 1-0 win over SOCSARGEN RFA. Selwyn Mamon netted the lone goal in the third minute from a header.
NCR’s John Jalique and Iloilo FA’s Selwyn Mamon were adjudged as the tournament joint-top goalscorer with six goals a piece.
NOFA’s John Marcellana and Francis Madamecilla were named the best goalkeeper and best midfielder respectively.
NCRFA’s Haren De Grace was the best defender while NOFA’s Rohderick Rodriguez was awarded as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
