PFF U18 Girls Mindanao Tryouts
PFF U18 Girls' Mindanao Tryout held yesterday (May 28) 'til this morning (May 29) at Tionko Football Grounds, Ecoland, Davao City attended by 33 aspiring girls from DavNor FA, GODARFA, ZANDIFA, SOCKSARGEN and DRFA players.
U18 Girls' Coaching Staff coach Kim Verzales conducted the tryout assisted by PFF U15 Girls' Head Coach Ching Delos Reyes and DRFA Coaching Staff.

ELEVEN TEAMS TO COMPETE IN AFF WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP 2022 PHILIPPINES
The Philippine Football Federation conducted the official draw for the ASEAN Football Federation Women’s Championship 2022 to be held on 4-17 July 2022.
A total of eleven (11) ASEAN Member Associations will compete in the regional competition. Slots in the two groupings were decided during the official draw ceremony held Saturday 28 May 2022 in Manila, Philippines.
The Philippines, which is one of two ASEAN nations to have qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, is the tournament hosts and will make their 12th appearance in the competition having participated since 2004. They will face four-time winners Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, and Malaysia in Group A.
Meanwhile, defending champions and fellow Women’s World Cup debutants Vietnam will be against Myanmar, Timor-Leste, Cambodia, and Laos in Group B
Matches will be played at Biñan Football Stadium in Biñan City and Imus City Grandstand in Imus, Cavite.

Thomas Dooley Returns As Azkals Head Coach
The Philippine Football Federation has announced the appointment of Thomas Dooley as head coach of the Men’s National Team.
Dooley will be taking charge of the team that will see action in AFC Asian Cup qualifying from June 8 to 14 in Mongolia.
“I’m honored to take responsibility to bring the team back where they belong,” said Dooley.
“Thank you to PFF for the trust you have in me.”
Dooley takes over the team that he also handled from March 2014 until March 2018 when he steered the Azkals to Asian Cup qualification for the first time in history.
“We would like to welcome Coach Thomas Dooley back with the Men’s National Team,” said PFF president Mariano Araneta, Jr. “We trust that he can take the team to greater heights in his second stint as head coach. We wish him and the team well as they prepare for the AFC Asian Cup 2023 qualifiers next month.”
The Azkals begin preparations for the Asian Cup qualifiers with a training camp from 26 May until 03 June 2022 in Manila before they proceed to Mongolia for the competition where they are grouped with Palestine, Yemen, and hosts Mongolia.

PFF Statement On PHI Men’s National Team
The Philippine Football Federation has announced that Scott Cooper has stepped down as head coach of the men’s national team.
PFF national teams’ committee chairman Dan Palami, who also manages the PMNT, expressed gratitude to Cooper for his contributions to the national team program which he handled shortly after the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.
“We thank coach Scott for sharing his knowledge, time, effort and making great sacrifices to our men’s national team program,” said Palami.
“We had our share of challenges handling the team and competing during the COVID-19 pandemic. During his time in charge, we were able to secure commitment from players who we believe can help us in achieving our goals. We wish coach Scott all the best in his future endeavors.”
Cooper was likewise grateful for the opportunity to coach the Azkals.
“I would like to take the opportunity to wish the Azkals all the best for the future,” said Cooper. “It was a pleasure working with all the staff and players. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Dan Palami for his trust and support and Stephan Schrock and Neil Etheridge for their unwavering support.”
The PFF is set to make an announcement on the new head coach of the PMNT in the coming days as the Azkals prepare for the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers from June 8 to 14 in Mongolia.

Myanmar 1-2 Philippines – Filipinas Claim First SEA Games Medal In 37 Years
CAM PHA – The Philippine Women’s National Team leaned on a sensational second half comeback to defeat Myanmar, 2-1, in the Bronze Medal match of Women’s Football competition in the 31st Southeast Asian Games.
Second half goals from Sarina Bolden and Quinley Quezada in the 73rd and 76th minutes gave the Philippines its first medal in football since 1985 despite going a goal down in the 23rd minute.
An unfortunate foul by Hali Long inside the box left the referee with no choice to point to the spot which was duly converted by Win Theigi Tun in the 23rd minute.
Known for their never-say-die attitude, the Filipinas found the equalizer with less than 20 minutes to play. Frilles intercepted the ball in the Myanmar half and sent a through ball to Bolden whose shot was initially parried by the goalkeeper, but found its way to the back of the net.
Quezada completed the comeback in the 76th minute. Bolden was once again involved in the run up to the goal, finding the Quezada free for the finish.
Head coach Alen Stajcic was elated with the team’s historic achievement. This was the country’s first medal in football wherein more than three teams competed in.
“It was the best performance we had in this tournament,” said Stajcic. “We showed amazing heart and spirit to the death to get the win. It was a performance to be proud of.”
Stajcic continued that this Bronze Medal victory is only the start for the Filipinas with the AFF Women’s Championship this July, and crucially the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 Australia & New Zealand on the horizon.
“We look this as our first medal in the SEA Games as a big achievement for the group. We are a new team playing at this level and competing against Vietnam, Thailand, and Myanmar so we’re going to have ups and downs,” added Stajcic. “We still have a long way to go and get to their level but tonight we showed we can compete with these 3 teams in Southeast Asia and if we keep on improving, next time I’ll expect a better medal.”
