In the build-up for the 30th Southeast Asian Games, the Philippine Under-22 National Team will participate in the Merlion Cup 2019 to be held from 7-9 June 2019 in Singapore.
The Merlion Cup is a 4-team invitational tournament organized and sanctioned by the Football Association of Singapore featuring National Under-22 Teams. Joining the Philippines in this competition are Indonesia, Thailand, and tournament host Singapore.
“We thank Football Association of Singapore for inviting the Philippines to compete in the Merlion Cup 2019,” said PFF general secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes. “This tournament is a perfect gauge for the team in their preparation for the 30th Southeast Asian Games.”
The Philippines U22 will face Singapore U22 this Friday, 7 June 2019 at 7:30 PM at Jalan Besar Stadium. The next match will be on 9 June 2019 and will play either the final match or the 3rd/4th place play-off.
The Philippine Football Federation called up 22 players for the tournament. This is the third competition the team will compete in after the AFF U22 Championship 2019 last February and the AFC U23 Championship 2020 Qualifiers last March.
The coaching staff is headed by Marlon Maro as team manager and Andres Gonzales as head coach assisted by coaches Randolofo Clarino, Christopher Pedimonte, and Anthony Albao.
The team left for Singapore today, 05 June 2019.
