Who can fill Stephan Schrock void? Azkals coach Dooley has couple of players in mind
THE departure of Stephan Schrock and Dennis Cagara may be a huge blow, but Philippine men’s football team coach Thomas Dooley sees plenty of replacements who can fill their absence. Schrock and Cagara announced on Monday they won’t play for the Azkals as long as Dooley is in charge. While Cagara’s spot at left-back is relatively secure with Filipino-Japanese teenager Daisuke Sato taking over, the void left by Schrock, arguably the Azkals’ finest individual talent, at left wing is indeed, tough to fill. But Dooley has listed a handful of other overseas-based booters who he said are capable of taking Schrock’s place beginning with Iain Ramsay, a longtime Azkals prospect who has expressed an interest in donning the country’s colors. “Iain will make a decision in the next couple months,” Dooley told Spin.ph on Friday, referring to Ramsay, a 26-year-old, 5-foot-11 Filipino-Australian left-winger who plays in the A-League. Another is Mike Ott, the 19-year-old Filipino-German attacking midfielder who has already been called up in the past, but has yet been tapped. Dooley wants to see Javier Patiño, the Filipino-Spanish striker whose Thai club Buriram United has always refused to release him for national duty, return to action. The German-American mentor is likewise confident local-based standouts in Jeffrey Christiaens and James Younghusband can step up. Christiaens, fully recovered from a foot injury, has been deployed as a left-back, but is a natural left-winger while Younghusband usually plays right wing. “We have a lot of options,” said Dooley, who fired back at Schrock on Thursday, calling him selfish and his actions unprofessional, even going as far as expressing that the midfield dynamo is not a big loss. “Schrock is a good player, but limited tactically.”

IF we can get Mike and Iain and get Javier back then we can compensate Schröck's loss tenfold! Mike is much stronger tactically than Schröck and is still young and can develop into a really good player. Anyone know anything about Iain?
ReplyDeleteSo just because Dooley said that Schrock is not tactically good, you automatically assume that Mike Ott is alot better when it comes to tactics? Have you seen Mike Ott play at all? I would say that Dooley is wrong when he say that Schrock can only play 2 positions, when he in fact can play more positions. Dooley only mentioned the positions Schrock plays when playing for the azkals, and completely forgot what Schrock use to play back home in Germany.
DeleteRealying in one player is not good see what happened to brazil after neymar was injured its not boxing its 11 man team see what happened to portugal they are realying on ronaldo who has injury

Delete"I would say that Dooley is wrong when he say that Schrock can only play 2 positions"
You clearly don't understand what he means by that! Obviously Schrock can play multiple positions and you can bet Dooley knows that! But what he meant there was that Schrock isn't disciplined or tactically inept enough to play within a certain position and it's true!
Dooley says he can only play center forward or the No.10, but I say he can only play No.10 or a free role as he isn't prolific enough to play up front and he ends up roaming all over the pitch regardless of what position he's playing.
But does that mean Schrock is shit? Absolutely not!! He's still a good player and an important player for us but it's just fact what Dooley said about him only being able to play two positions and also the reason why he can't hack it in the Bundesliga.
And you clearly dont understand what I was trying to say. All of you say center forward or No.10, but that isnt his actual position when you look at where he used to play. He is disciplined enough to play a certain position. Just look at where he started, and where he usually plays. I dont think thats the reason why he cant hack it in the Bundesliga. Others are plain and simple better. Same for Etheridge, De Jong, Younghusband etc. They werent good enough to make it to the big leagues. Thats why theyre where they are now. Its not all about tactics, even if Dooley says it is.
DeleteSchrock was also given a free role, as to what Palami said. A free role often means that a player can drift off and go where he wants. And with his quality, and at the level he played at, for the azkals, he was more than good at it.
Anyways, this is a big loss for the azkals. I wont miss Cagara much, as I think he wasnt really that good for the azkals. I think Ray Jónsson was a lot better, but Schrock could could be the game changing player the azkals need.
Dooley sucks!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteforget about stephan sucks and dennis barabara we need a team not a star maybe they can be in showbiz they can show up on gandang gabi vice
DeleteIan Ramsay? You really are an ignorant lot. He is not in good form and hasn't been for 5 years now. He has repeatedly rejected invitations to play for the Philippines because he thought he could make it to the socceroos who clearly doesnt want him. Dooley thinks this guy can fill Schrocks shoes? Lol. He cant even play regularly for his a league club. We already have Christieans so there is no need to waste money on Ramsey.
ReplyDeleteYou're even more ignorant you mong!
DeleteYou call people ignorant because of the notion that Ramsay could replace Schrock but then go on and say that "we already have Christiaens" as if he can fill his shoes?!? lol!!!
Granted I do think Christiaens is good and I hate seeing him being wasted at LB. But does that make him better than a supposedly out of form Ramsay? it's definitely questionable!
Absolutely! Christieans is 10x better than Ramsey even if he was playing with measles. Football development down under is slow compared to Europe. Forgwt about Ramsey. He is still holding out you know for a socceroos call up. And he is 28yrs old now! Hes overrated and undisciplined. We do not need a Ramsey.
DeleteWTF! Christieans is better just because he learned his football in Europe? LOL! You clearly dont have a clue, at all!
Delete@ Anonymous 9 August 2014 02:17
DeleteYou don't even know how old Ramsey is yet claim he's so bad that Christiaens with measles would be 10x better. lol!! Clearly you're a troll!
Next!
Lol youre the one who knows jack. Look at Australia place on world football. Look at the quality of their league. Yes euro football is still better than down under.
Delete^^STFU already you troll! Obviously European football in general is of better standard than Australian but that doesn't mean every fucking player who comes out of Europe is better than every Australian especially when we're talking about lower league Euro players versus top flight Australian.
DeleteLike I said, I AM A FAN of Christiaens and believe he should be used as the left wigner in terms of domestic based players. But if Ramsay makes him available he would be a better option, he's more experienced as well. If Christiaens was so good to the point where you think even if he had measles he'd still be better, than why is he stuck playing in a such a shit standard of football in the Philippines and not playing proper pro football elsewhere?! He's good but he's not that good!!
Now again, STFU!!!
Where do you think Ramsey is playing? Look him up. He's in the a league. He's not in the first 11 he's not even on the bench. Has been like that for 4 years now. His quality has dipped and I say with full confidence that Chrustieans is better than him right now. Look him up before you start accusing me of being a troll.
DeleteTop flight Australian leagues is low quality. Top players in Australian national team plays for lower tiered leagues in Europe. Lol at anonymous 10 Aug 10:23 how misinformed you are. That is the kind of quality this Ramsey shithead is. And so many times before he snubbed the PFF. So forget about him.
DeleteThose patriots who label Schrok a traitor should get one thing straight. Any European based footballer who plays for the Azkals does it because of love for the motherland. Having 'Philippines International' on a CV impresses no coach over there. Travel to Manila means a 24 hour endurance test followed by jet lag, the blast of unfamiliar tropical heat, and the mindbending congestion on the city's roads.
ReplyDeleteMore importantly is the regular disorganisation and uncaringness of the PFF. Any survey of past and present Azkal aquad members will show most have to make their own travel and hotel arrangements with valid expenses claims often unpaid despite assurances of reimbursement before leaving home.
Europeans are also deeply offended by discourtesy. Of course no player has a right to expect inclusion in the next game squad but a short private phone call or email to ex heroes like Etheridge explaining non selection is surely not too much to ask.
As Schrock said: he's had enough, and if the PFF doesn't start treating its players with a little more respect there will be a lot more disillusioned talent.
"if the PFF doesn't start treating its players with a little more respect there will be a lot more disillusioned talent."
DeleteTo be slightly fair to the PFF, Palami got autonomy for the MNT. So any disrespecting of player or anything negative falls on Fatlami's hands!
Although it looks like the PFF basically has all the national tams fend for themselves and that in itself is a clear sign of being unorganized and unprofessional.
Wala.
DeleteTama, Palami Football Federation (PFF) na yan kaya kung may reklamo kayo huwag sa PFF directly.
