Following his superb performance during the last AFC President’s Cup in Bacolod, the 34-year-old Spanish central defender Juan Luis Guirado is reported to join the Bacolod-based Ceres-La Salle FC in the upcoming season of the United Football League.
In a report from El Correo de Burgos, a Spanish newspaper, the Fil-Spanish defender who last suited for CD Burgos in 2013 season has signed up a 2-year deal with Ceres FC – which just got its promotion to the First Division.
While on loan with Ceres FC, which represented the Philippines during the AFC President’s Cup, Guirado scored 2 goals in 3 games against Rimyongsu SC of Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Chinese Taipei’s Tatung FC, and Turkmenistan’s HTTU Asgabat.
In another Spain-based newspaper, Diario de Burgos, it described that Guirado’s outstanding performance during the last AFC tournament has led the club [Ceres-La Salle] to offer Guirado with a 2-year contract.
“My interest started almost as a joke and I finally made ??an offer for two seasons,” Guirado told El Correo de Burgos.
Guirado also told Diario de Burgos that football is now the third most popular sport in the Philippines next to boxing and basketball.
Meanwhile, late last month, Ceres FC signed up 23-year-old Fil-Belgian Jeffrey Christiaens and Spanish forward Adrián Gallardo.
While Christiaens’ transfer made him the fifth player from the league’s defending champion, Global FC, Gallardo is the first full-blooded Spaniard to suit up for the Bacolod-based club.
Christiaens was born in Brussels, Belgium and first saw action in Philippine soil in 2011 as part of the U23 squad during the Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia before he suited up for the Azkals a year later.
Gallardo, on the other hand, has scored 6 goals in 19 games for the CD Fernando in the La Liga.
Aside from CD Fernando, Gallardo also played for Union Sporting, Chiclana CF, Oporto, Industrial Jerez, Cadiz B, Athletic Sanluqueño and Cádiz CF.
Although he hasn’t yet formally signed his contract with the Ceres-La Salle FC, Gallardo is already very excited and looking forward in joining the team./
