A Pachanga side that went down to just nine men still proved too good for hapless Pasargad, coasting to a 4-1 victory on Saturday night in the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
The former Division 2 champion played with just 10 men in the second half after the early ejection of Sahayan Jafari, before David Cortina became a second casualty for Pachanga.
Without Azkal striker Nate Burkey, Pachanga still found sufficient firepower as Jang Ho Yoon registered a brace, while Jayson Cutamora and Jinggoy Valmayor were also on target.
Pachanga stretched its winning streak to four games and kept a firm grip of fifth place, increasing its point sum to 26 points to move just two points behind fourth-running defending champion Stallion.
Pasargad, which also fell a man down after Jerome Cuyos was thrown out for picking up two yellow cards, absorbed a 14th loss in 18 games to remain four points behind eighth-running Socceroo as it wasted the gains it made in three previous games, where the cellar-dwellers managed to grab two points.
After Cutamora opened the scoring 23 minutes into the game, Jafari was sent off with a direct red card for stepping on a fallen Pasargad foe, leaving Pachanga with just 10 men six minutes before first-half stoppage time.
Instead of going defensive, Pachanga turned it up a notch offensively as Valmayor, the reigning UAAP leading scorer, doubled the lead with a left-footed strike near the box two minutes after intermission.
Jang then joined the scoring party, striking in the 65th and 85th minute, respectively. His goals sandwiched Pasargad’s lone goal in the 70th courtesy of Hossein Doustdarsefidmazgi.
Cortina was sent off by referee Rey Ritaga in the 75th with a straight red apparently for abusive language, a call that earned the ire of Pachanga owner John Gutierrez, whose loud voice reverberated around the quiet, sparsely-filled stadium.
The call on Cortina was questionable, but Pachanga felt Jafari’s same infraction was clear.
“Mali talaga yung ginawa niya (Jafari). Kailangan maramdaman niya kung anong dapat action para sa kanya, pero yung kay David, there’s nothing you can do about it,” said Pachanga coach Noel Marcaida, who added they will write a formal letter appealing the Cortina red card.
“It’s not even a yellow, kasi wala naman siyang ginawa,” Marcaida insisted. “There are times na ang player plays with a lot of emotion. Hindi mo ma-control mag-mura or whatever. At witness rin tayo na may games na nagmumurahan ang player, pero hindi naman binibigyan ng yellow.”
