Philippine national men’s football team captain Chieffy Caligdong is expected to be out of the Azkals for their upcoming friendlies next month after sustaining a foot injury during a United Football League match.
Caligdong suffered a partial fracture on his right foot during Green Archers United Globe’s scoreless draw against Global FC last Saturday which could sideline him for four to six weeks.
“He was stomped on accidentally by Jeffrey Christiaens as he dribbled passed him during our game versus Global,” Green Archers manager Monchu Garcia told InterAksyon.com.
The injury would force Caligdong to miss the Azkals’ friendlies next month against Malaysia on March 1 in Kuala Lumpur and Azerbaijan on March 5 in Dubai.
Caligdong, however, won’t need a surgery which would allow the Azkals star to return to the football pitch soon, Garcia said.
“Just a cast (is needed). Four to six weeks (recovery time) according to the doc. But knowing Chieffy, he will be playing sooner,” Garcia said.
The Azkals are preparing for the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup in Maldives in May, where the tournament champion earns a ticket to the prestigious Asian Cup in 2015.
