The Philippine national Under-23 men’s football team lost to its Singapore counterparts, 1-0, in the first match of their friendly series Thursday night at the Hougang Stadium in the city-state.
The U-23 Azkals, led by local stars Mark Hartmann, Joshua Beloya and Patrick Deyto, gave up an early goal to Singapore after Safuwan Baharudin scored at the 24th minute for the host’s 1-0 lead.
Deyto’s goalkeeping helped the Filipinos stay within striking distance for the entire match, but the squad failed to hit the back of the net which allowed Singapore to grab the victory.
The U-23 Azkals will have a chance to avenge the loss at home, as the second match of the friendly series will be played in the Philippines this year.
