GLOBAL moved closer of reaching international glory after blanking Warriors FC on Saturday night in the group stage of the Singapore Cup at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium.
Misagh Bahadoran and new recruit Jordan Robertson were on target for the United Football League champions, who became the second Philippine club after Loyola Meralco to advance to the quarterfinals.
It was a remarkable victory for the Philippine side, which faced a Warriors side that featured Singaporean nationals in the fold and a former Japanese World Cup campaigner, but has disappointed in the Singapore league.
Riding the momentum of its 2-1 win over UFL leader Stallion the last time, Global struck first courtesy of the Filipino-Iranian Bahadoran, who found the back of the net 33 mimutes into the game.
Four minutes later, Robertson, the 25-year-old reinforcement from England, justified his inclusion in the team as he doubled the lead with a neat left-footed volley.
