GLOBAL opened its Asian Football Confederation President’s Cup campaign on an impressive note, scoring a clinical 5-0 victory over Yeedzin to grab the early lead at the Cebu City Sports Complex.
Hardly looking like newbies in the international arena, the defending United Football League champions never looked back after establishing an early lead before an appreciative home crowd.
With KRL holding two-time champion Dordoi Bishkek to a 1-1 draw earlier, Global now sits atop the standings with three points.
A win for Global against KRL of Pakistan on Friday will assure the Philippine representatives one of the top two spots in Group B, eventually booking them a ticket to the finals in September.
National team members Patrick Reichelt, Carli de Murga, Misagh Bahadoran, Marwin Angeles all found the back of the net while Polish utility booter Ben Starosta rounded out the scoring for Global, which also drew notable showings from Jeffrey Christiaens and Jason de Jong.
Christiaens assisted on two goals, while De Jong stood out in the midfield.
