Pachanga-Diliman hammered Philippine Air Force, 5-1, behind a late scoring spree from Boyet Cañedo to snap a three-game skid in the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium in Tagiug.
Osseynou Diop and Jamali also found the back of the net for the Division 1 newcomers, but it was Cañedo’s hat-trick effort—done in just six minutes—that sealed the blowout victory that gained for the squad the provisional hold of fifth spot.
The 2012 Division 2 titlists, now with nine points in seven matches, kept the Airmen winless after seven outings.
“Uhaw kami,” the 27-year-old San Carlos City-born Cañedo said. “Ginagrab na namin yung opportunity na mag-attack kasi mostly nung past games namin, more on depensa kami.”
“Pero right now, nagbui-build up na kami ng attack unlike past games namin na mostly hanggang half line lang kami at nagre-rely sa counterattacks. Ngayon sabay-sabay na kami,” the 5-foot-4 midfielder added. “I’m so happy na iniba yung sistema ng laro.”
The adjustments in Pachanga’s offense seemed to work early on as the squad drew first blood courtesy of a goal from Diop in the 27th minute.
After Ian Araneta pulled a goal back for the Airmen three minutes later, Pachanga regained the lead in second half when Jamali struck 11 minutes after the restart, setting the stage for Cañedo’s explosion.
Cañedo struck first three minutes before stoppage time, added another one three minutes later, before finishing off night with another goal three minutes after that.
