Reigning Cup titlist Stallion Sta. Lucia trounced Green Archers United Globe, 3-1, in the United Football League action Thursday night at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Stallion dominated the whole match against the Green Archers, who missed national team star Chieffy Caligdong, as well as goalkeeper Patrick Deyto in the game.
The Cup champions quickly jumped to a 2-nil halftime lead after two almost identical plays by Stallion. At the 30th minute, Spanish import Rufo Sanchez received a cross from the right flank and scored a goal which gave his team its first goal.
Moments after, Stallion made a similar play, this time involving three players from the right side before another cross was thrown inside the box, which midfielder Prince Boley caught before blasting a goal at the 38th minute.
Green Archers then looked to recover immediately after the break, as midfielder Jovanie Simpron scored a goal at the 48th minute against his former team Stallion to cut their deficit to 2-1.
However, Korean import Park Bo Bae squeezed in a goal against Green Archers defenders at the 65th minute after a pass from Sanchez to seal the triumph for Stallion, which also missed Jason De Jong due to national team duties.
The victory helped Stallion grab three points and a share of the early lead in the League table with fellow UFL powerhouse squads Loyola Meralco Sparks and defending champion Global FC.
