Underlining its seriousness to enhance its status as a premier Filipino
football club, Global will be tapping Scottish manager Brian Reid to handle the
team starting this month.
Global has never had a coach in the caliber of Reid, who had a credible
playing career before taking up a managerial role with Ayr United in
Scotland.
The 42-year-old Reid had stints in the Scottish Premier League with
Rangers, before managing Ayr United, which he helped secure to promotion to the
first division during a five-year spell until last year.
“His experience will give the club a lot of confidence,” Global boss Dan
Palami said of Reid, a centerback during his playing days.
Reid is scheduled to arrive in the country next week and link up with the
squad, which is now preparing for the Smart Club Championships this month.
Reid’s first game in charge will possibly be in the first round of the
competition when Global plays Nomads on Jan. 13 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Global has been without a coach since Edwin Cabalida took a leave from the
team late last year.
Palami took over on an interim basis and successfully piloted the side to
the finals of the Cup.
