Azkals, Azraq set for friendly
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 11: Filipinos in Kuwait are gearing up for the arrival of the Philippine Azkals (Philippine National Football Team) in Kuwait on Saturday at 1:40 pm via Gulf Air from Bahrain.
The Azkals are set to go up against Kuwait’s Al-Azraq National Football Team in a FIFA friendly match on Tuesday at the Kuwait Sports Club Stadium in Kaifan. According to the Kuwait Football Association, the kick-off time will be at 6:50 pm and tickets priced at KD 1, KD 2 and KD 3 are available at the stadium’s box-office.
The Azkals who are currently in Bahrain for a friendly match with the Bahrain Football team on Friday after which the team will be fly off to Kuwait. The 39-man team delegation including Coach Michael Weiss and other officials will arrive in Kuwait on Saturday, according to the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait as brothers James and Phil Younghusband will be rejoining the Philippine Men’s Football National Team in Kuwait after missing the Philippine Football Peace Cup last month.
On the other hand, Azkals team Manager Dan Palami and new recruit Demetrius Omphroy as well as striker Angel Guirado and goalkeeper Neil Etheridge will arrive on Sunday on different flights.
Filipinos are excited to see some power-packed action between the Azkals and Al-Azraq as they hope to see a stronger Azkals this time to go up against Kuwait’s Al-Azraq. “I believe that the Azkals will give a better play this time as compared last year. They are more seasoned now as shown in the recent Philippine Football Peace Cup, not to mention the Azkals’ new recruits like in Matthew Uy, Demet Omphroy, and the newest striker Denis Wolf,” stated Jonathan Perez, an avid Azkals fan.
It may be recalled that Kuwait’s Al-Azraq stopped the Azkals from its dream of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup last year. Over 15,000 Filipinos cheered for the Azkals in Qadisya Stadium during the match.
In the upcoming FIFA friendly match between the two teams, Filipino fans expect the Azkals players to give their best and give Kuwait’s Al-Azraq National Football Team a head-on match on the field.

DeleteKuwait NT are seasoned vets...I watched their World Cup qualifying matches and they performed very well both wins and losses.
ReplyDeleteA draw will be nice and an achievement. I believe they can score against us but by the way we play today and by our desire to win, it is not impossible that we can win against them.
