Kaya booters eye share of lead, face Stallion
MANILA, Philippines – Resurgent Kaya FC guns for a share of the lead with Global FC as it takes on Stallion Gilligan’s FC in the First Division of the United Football League today at the University of Makati field in Makati City.
The LBC-backed Kaya booters have swept their last three matches since interim coach Kale Alvarez and playing captain and assistant coach Aly Borromeo took over following the resignation of Spanish mentor Juan Cutillas.
Cutillas, a former many-time national team coach, resigned over differences with management following an embarrassing 1-5 defeat at the hands of pacesetter Global FC last March 31 at the UMak.
Kaya, however, has responded to the challenge, winning its next three matches against Army Fritz & Macziol FC, 1-0, last April 14, Air Force Phoenix FC, 3-1, last April 21 and the Green Archers United FC, 2-0.
The win streak shoved the team solo third with 27 points on nine wins against two losses.
The Kaya booters shoot for their fourth straight in the 7 p.m. showdown with the Stallion Gilligan’s FC side, hoping to get past Loyola Meralco Sparks, currently at No. 2 with 28 points on nine wins and a draw against two setbacks, and a possible share of the lead with Global, which shows the way with 30 points on 10 triumphs and two defeats.
The fourth-running Stallion Gilligan’s FC, on the other hand, shoots for their seventh win against three draws and a loss.
