A TOTAL of 180 local and visiting teams signed up for the 1st Bro National Football Festival on April 20, 21 and 22 at the Aboitiz Field in Mandaue.
There will be teams coming from Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro, Manila, Dumaguete and San Carlos City.
From the original 7 a-side format, the organizers and coaches agreed to play the Boys 7 to Boys 11 in a 9-a-side format to coincide with that of the Men’s and Ladies Open, Executive 40 and 35 and Inter BPO.
Categories from Boys 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 and Girls 15 and 19 will use the 11-a-side format.
The schedules of games per category were released in last Thursday’s coaches’ meeting, where it was also announced that there will only be 10 teams per category.
Organizers said that although they accommodated more than 10 teams in other categories, only those who paid the registration fees by April 17 will be part of the official list before they hold the drawing of lots for the bracketing on April 19.
The matches in the Boys 7, 9 , 11, 13, 15 and Girls 15 will start on April 20. The men’s open will also start early in the tournament, which has 34 teams in six groups.
The Boys 8, 10, 12, 14, 17, Girls 19 and Executive 35 will be on April 21. In the evening will be a band competition and coaches’ night to promote good relations among coaches, referees and organizers.
The final day of the tournament will feature the Boys 16, 18, Ladies Open, Executive open 40, Inter BPO and championship match in the men’s open.
