MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) said Filipino-British Matthew Hartmann can always appeal his indefinite suspension from joining any PFF-sanctioned events, including the United Football League (UFL).
PFF President Marino “Nonong” Araneta said they have formed an appeals committee to give Hartmann a venue to appeal his suspension.
“Hartmann always has the right to appeal,” Araneta said in an interview on ANC’s Hardball.
Hartmann was suspended indefinitely from joining local clubs or organizations for leaving the National Under-23 squad’s campaign in the 2011 Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) football tournament last November.
The Filipino-British left the team due to a reported friction with head coach Hans Michael Weiss.
“It started when he abandoned the team, he went to Rome, he didn't play anymore in the SEA games,” said Araneta.
“A complaint we referred to the PFF Disciplinary committee... after that, they said Hartmann has to be suspended," he added.
The suspension barred Hartmann from joining the PFF-sanctioned UFL, where he plays as a left back for the Loyola Meralco Sparks.
“It's the committee that made that decision to suspend Hartmann from playing for the national team and also the club team. The club teams are sanctioned by the PFF,” explained the PFF president.
