ERCO is slowly closing in on the top spot of bracket A in the Men’s Open of the 14th Aboitiz Football Cup after winning its assignment yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Subangdaku Mandaue City.
Erco edged Subangdaku Football Club (SFC), 3-2, to solidify its second place standing with 12 points off four wins and two losses.
Erco has the same points as bracket leader Queen City United (QCU) A. But the latter has an edge with a goal difference (GD) of 24 points.
The men’s Open follows a cup-type format, which means that the top two teams in each bracket will advance to the crossover semifinals.
QCU A lost a chance to pad its points after losing to Don Bosco (DB) Magone, 0-2.
The team which had the most impressive win in bracket A was CrazyHorse, which logged a 14-0 rout of Don Bosco United Football Club (DBUFC) B.
The win brought CrazyHorse to third place with nine points to its name.
In bracket B, QCU B completed an 8-1 trashing of San Roque Royal United (SRRU).
San Roque Football Club (SRFC) made a leap from fourth to second place with a 5-0 demolition of Uptown United. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
